Layrian

[3] Map and Information [WIP] Map01l10

Environment, Temperature, & Weather

Layrian has one of the most varied climates and ecosystems in the whole world, not to mention being the largest continent, being a greater size that both Verula and Shveki combined. Layrian's northern hemisphere is very cold, known as the Iceilo region, and is where the Vuari and the Kaamil tribes hail from. These regions are mountainous, have many great taigas, and the most northern parts have tundras and even barren ice deserts.

In the region below that, Skeir, the climate begins to even out again. Much of the soil here is fertile, and it is filled with beautiful rivers, lakes, and forests. The southern part of this region is exceptionally well known for its grasslands, and the northern half even has a few plateaus.

The final region, Florenta, is very known for its marshes and swamps, with much more soggy soil and erratic weather.

Flora & Fauna

Skeir Region

This is the area between the Gaiyan Fuea forest and the Kaeshwi forest, with Riamorsa included within this region. Riamorsa is the continent's largest volcano, being positioned precariously on the small island of the same name, sometimes even going by Rima in order to avoid confusion with the volcano. The flora of this location is a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, and many flowering plants. There are no palm trees or anything large and leafy like that, but it has a very North American style environment. The animals around here include many different kinds of forest and grassland dwelling creatures, from elk to deer, to black bears and prairie dogs, even wild horses. The island of Rima generally is home to deciduous plants, and unique animal life adapted to living near the volcano, meaning it is primarily associated with mythical beasts, like phoenixes. Muri Taka is also part of this region.

Gaiyan Forest: The second largest forest in Layrian, this massive sprawl of land boasts a large variety of wildlife - mostly plants, some of them rare and only found in this forest, and nowhere else. Most refer to it as just the 'Gaia' Forest, and it is a good retreat for those who want to be around nature. Due to its plentiful amount of plants, it is a good place for healers, who can collect herbs while being in a calming environment at the same time. The climate there is regular, and the days are either pleasantly warm or slightly chilly. However, during winter, the snowstorms that rage through that area are ferocious, capable of easily taking lives.

Kaeshwi Forest: This particular patch of land is often mistaken for the Gaiyan forest, owing to the two being so close to each other that it is almost impossible to tell where it starts and ends; you'll have to refer to the weather. The Kaeshwi forest, unlike its neighbor, does not boast a regular climate, and instead has heavy rainfalls all year long that turn into equally heavy snow during winter, though snowstorms are rare, unlike the Gaiyan forest.

Luia National Forest: Despite being a national forest, it was only recently formed, and its name cannot be found on some of the older maps. The reasons for its sudden appearance still unknown, but it does house the largest variety of fauna and flora among all the other forests.

Minoriov: Another forest in Layrian, though not as widely recognised as the Gaiyan forest, the Minoriov forest is so small that it usually isn't written on any maps, but it's still there. Rare plants thrive in this particular place, along with exotic animals boasting unique patterns on their bodies, but they are all adapted to survive the constant hurricanes there. Not many dragons are found living here, due to the strength and frequency of the hurricanes occurring, though it is rumored that the plants can cure any kind of disease.

Florenta Region

This is the location between Kaeshwi forest and the tip of Layrian's tail, past the Sfair wetlands. This region, obviously, is a very marshy location, with many marsh dwelling inhabitants seen commonly in places such as Mississippi and Florida, including but not limited to, alligators, crocodiles, snakes of many form, crabs, fish, manatees, and ect. Any animal you can think of that is commonly found in that kind of location, including a variety of fishing birds. The flora is also marsh like, with low hanging trees, lilies, and the like. Foxes are even found in some places of the wetlands. Many aquatic types of draconiformes enjoy it here.

Paeswa: This is a forest that is right on the border of what would be considered the Florenta region. It is an oak-birch forest that is known for being rather rocky and damp, almost mimicking a jungle or tropical forest. It has many large rocks and burrows, and also has very fertile soil and lots of animal life.

Iceilo Region

One of the largest regions, this region is home to many unique kinds of flora and fauna. There fauna includes hardy animals, such as polar bears, goats, elk, reindeer, lemmings, penguins, arctic foxes, wolves, moose, and more. Mostly draconiformes that live in high altitudes or can stand the cold venture into this region, though there are some grassland areas that are also a part of this location that aren't quite as cold as the rest of it. The plants of this region are usually stingy and hardy, with very few trees growing in the tundra areas, and trees that do grow are mostly conifers. The mountains can grow to high altitudes, and there are caves, meaning homes for bats and moss. There are many kinds of rare herbal plants in these mountains, as well.

Etcan Mountains: One of the largest mountain ranges on Layrian, and home to the largest mountain on Nuira, this beautiful mountain range is home to many wonderful sights. It is well known for being the home of the Vuari, and entering some of the territory of the Kaamil. Many historians wonder if it is the oldest known mountain range on Nuira, but many would say that award actually goes to the Valesuyin Range on Shveki.

Astuwaka Fialo: This is the largest mountain on Nuira. Many dragons have visited this mountain because they believe it to be a source of magical energy. There are even old folk tales of the mountain, that say if you reach the peak, you will be granted enlightenment and goodluck. Problem is, while the mountain is not inherently risky, if you climb too high, the winds at the top start to become quite fierce. That is why, while travel is relatively harmless, it's getting to the top that can become lethal and dangerous. Some dragons even live on the mountain, and there are parts that aren't as cold as others.

Jaggedhorn Mountains: Another mountain range, this one by the coast. The mountains here are significantly colder than the Etcan ones, and much more dangerous. They are some of the most northern of the mountain ranges, and thus, are to be avoided. Few dragons live in these areas except for the ones most specially adapted for surviving in gruelingly cold temperatures and terrain with very little food. The one thing well known about the Jaggedhorn Mountains is that many of the mountains composed within it are dormant volcanoes. These mountains mainly run through the Kaamil territory, and rogue territory.

Aeria Mountains: This mountain range is probably one of the calmer mountains of the alpines. It primarily runs through Kaamil territory, but it also intersects a bit of the Vuari and a bit of rogueland. Many dragons claim this territory as their home, and it has been known to be home to many unique breeds of flower and plant. It has a pretty mild temperature compared to the other two mountain ranges, and has been known to be a great hunting spot. The weather can be a bit all over the place, and it gets a lot more rain here than the other two places.

Falcon's Peak: A mountain on the outskirts of the Jaggedhorn mountain range. It is a dormant volcano, and has many hidden springs within it, that are kept warm due to the geothermal heat. The mountain is probably in the top ten tallest mountains of Layrian. Doesn't get as much snow as the rest of jaggedhorn, due to it going dormant relatively recently. Well, recently by volcano standards. It is known as Falcon's Peak because a rare breed of falcon lives here, that is a delicacy among Kaamil, Vuari, and rogues alike.

Fairysnow Forest: A well known forest within the Kaamil territory. It earned its name from the fact that the forest always seems to have an enchanted feel to it, and many have claimed to have seen fairies and other magical creatures within. It is usually covered in at least 3" to 1'2" year round, and the plants that grow here are a mix of conifers and deciduous trees, which is unusual for this far north. There are also many herbs here, and there is usually very little rain. It is mostly either sunny or rainy.

Soothleer Forest: Named after the myths that float around this place, this forest is well known enough to be recognised by most when its name is mentioned, but very few ever dare to visit this forest, not only because of its unpredictable climate, with heavily falling snow that can give way to hail at an instant, but also because of the legend of the Soothleer, a gigantic, grotesque beast capable of overpowering dragons. It is not confirmed whether this beast exists, but most still choose to stay away anyway, the few rogues living there often refusing to talk about it.

Faen Gorge: A large winding gorge within the Aeria mountains. It has many hidden caverns and caves deep inside, as well as a variety of underground rivers that flow through this area. Many of these rivers come out as small waterfalls into the gorge. The gorge has a river that runs across the bottom, but there is also an area of land near the river at some areas of the gorge, not all. The bottom of the gorge is rocky, and the river is fast and dangerous, with powerful rapids that could sweep a dragon off its feet.

Risgha Forest: One of the forests near the outskirts of the Etcan mountains, where the Jade river passes through. This forest is known to be a much less extreme alpine environment, bordering more on a temperate forest than an alpine forest. The forest itself is a preferred hunting spot, as not only does part of it intersect rogueland, but it also had pretty mild temperatures.

Lakes, Rivers, & Oceans

Magienta Ocean

One of the smallest oceans of the planet, this is a small ocean that surrounds Muri Taka. It is incredibly salty, and many hardy species of fish and mammals alike can be found inside. It has one of the lowest sea floors of the oceans, as to be expected from an ocean that is surrounded on many sides, and has a striking resemblance to the Mediterranean sea in inhabitants, geology, and ecology. The climate of this ocean is generally pretty mild, being one of the warmer waters surrounding Layrian.

Iceilo Sea

Similar greatly to the arctic sea, this is one of the world's coldest oceans, and spans all across the northern border of Nuira, even passing over parts of Shveki. The ocean is home to some of the larger life forms, such as killer whales and narwhals, and often times you'll see large glaciers. the land bordering the Iceilo sea is covered in large icy cliffs, and there are many floating ice islands deeper into the ocean across the top of Nuira, many miles north of Layrian. These waters are rarely home to aquatic draconiformes, as they can be incredibly dangerous to venture into.

Regima Ocean

This is the ocean that spans between Layrian, Verula, and Shveki respectfully, and is home to one of the largest ecosystems on the planet. Many ocean draconiformes live in this region, such as the Lakara tribe, and there are a variety of small, unidentified islands across this water way. The temperatures are moderate, and it has one of the deepest trenches in the world, with Shveki's ocean only beating it by about 200 feet deep, with the one in Regima, Wonderland, being about 9,000 feet deep, at most.

Faen River

One of the longest rivers, again, just barely beating that of Shveki's longest river, the Koragi, being about 4,570 miles long, while Koragi is roughly 5,923 miles, both beating beating our river sizes at a landslide, with the Amazon running up just 225 miles short, and not even being able to compete again. Generally, appearance wise, the Faen looks like a mix between the amazon, the Mississippi, and the Flordia everglades, with class, small shrubby plants, and a forest of entangles marshy trees. Fresh water, obviously, but there are a variety of locations in the river that cut out into the Magienta Ocean.

Jade River

A small river running through the Etcan mountains, it is incredibly cold, and due to the minerals and natural springs of its origin, it has a few small springs that you can bathe in to calm your mind, if you can stand the cold. The river falls down into a variety of water falls, also spanning a pretty large distance. One of the waterfalls, known simply as Hui'iragi, or Sorcerer's Hand, is an exceptionally tall one, flowing from the mountains a whopping 1,305 feet. Another tributary of the river falls into an unnamed waterfall at a height of roughly 175 feet, both continuing out and into sea.

Suji Pun Lake

A large lake off the side of the continent, Suji Pun is an incredibly hot, slightly polluted lake due to its proximity to the active volcano. The waters can sometimes reach temperatures as high as 220 degrees farenheit. A select few draconiformes are able to still bathe in this water, but due to these unstable conditions, most life does not live on the island aside from mythical beings. Only mythical beasts of the aquatic kind live in the lake, making hunting difficult for anything that does happen to live here.

Cashara's Lake

Another large lake by the northern tip of Layrian, this huge monster of a lake is about the same size as one of the great lakes, notably lake superior. It has a huge volume, and a tremendous depth. However, due to it existing in the tundra, in a valley by the mountains, secluded from most like, the lake is incredibly difficult to get to. Mostly dragons used to the arctic can survive in these conditions. The lake itself does have some special freshwater animals, and is even home to freshwater seal and penguins, due to its close proximity to their natural habitat.

Verula

[3] Map and Information [WIP] Map0210

Environment, Temperature, & Weather

Desert

Being one of the most prominent biomes on Verula next to savannah, as the two arguably share equal amount of coverage over the second largest continent, the desert is plentiful with rich history, especially when one of the oldest tribe still around today live there. The desert is full of hot temperatures and beautiful, yet sparse, flora life. The most rain it usually gets in these biomes is around 6-25 inches year round. The days are often unbearably hot, while the nights are cold. Many life is adapted to survive in both hot and cool climates. The temperatures in the day often don't get out of 90 F, but at least it isn't humid. Meanwhile, at night, they can drop to 30 F.

Muh'az Desert: Arguably the largest desert in the world, though, obviously, no one has actually measured it, the Muh'az desert is full of rich history and tribal conflicts. The temperature here is usually very hot, sometimes reaching as high as 110 degrees F. Part of it covers the Stormcaller territory, but it is more or less rogue land. There are many historical sights hidden within the desert, from long ago. Ruins that have been left to the elements.

The J'a-nei: Another large desert, though significantly smaller in size when compared to the Muh'az. This desert is one of the coldest at night, reaching temperatures of down to 29 degrees F. Many different types of cactus and flowers, most notably the ones known as an antidote for many types of desert dragon venom and poison. This desert gets up to 35 inches of rain, and part of it goes through Ki'sha territory.

Ka'vec Desert: Another primarily abandoned desert. This one is partially artificially made, believed to have spread in size due to interference from over 30,000 years ago.

Lunashi Oasis

The Rabu'urn Dunes:

Supa Oasis:

Savannah

One of the most widely populated biomes on Verula, and definitely a biome that is more known for life than that of the desert. The savannah has many unique forms of life within it, and has many sprawling grasslands and small mountains, and even some plateaus. Most of the time, the temperature can range widely, as can the weather. Most of the temperatures range from 85 degrees to 60 degrees, based on the season. The weather can go from rainy to windy to painfully hot, and a rainy year can get as much as up to 60 inches, as the average rainfall for the year is 30 to 55 inches.

Firescale Savanna:
Dunes of the Damned:
Junta Savanna:
Artrey:
Tali'qual:
Plains of Uquan:
Feverish Grasslands:

Forest

While most of Verula seems to be one extreme or the other, there are a few areas on the desert continent that seem to have forests. These forests aren't as lush and widespread as the ones on Layrian, obviously, but they are still very unique in their own right. There are many short, stout trees, and sprawling fields and rocky terrain. Many of the forests of Verula end up merging into rain forests and jungles. The weather is often unusually hot for a forest, and unlike the deserts, the added water from nearby rivers, lakes, trees, etc. allows for the humidity to be much higher. Temperatures can vary from 80 degrees to 40 degrees F, and rainfall can vary from 25 to 80 inches.

Rend-e Forest:
Gemshi'la:
Arg-randa:
Sethsi Forest:
Forest of T'chi'a:

Rain Forest

Often forgotten about when rain forests or jungles in general are regarded, these magnificent forests, while not as large and lush, and have an overall different feel compared to the ones on Shveki, are still quite beautiful nonetheless, even if most tribes forget that Verula has them. There is also a lot of old artifacts, and many tall and beautiful, strange species of trees. The jungle floor is usually moist and wet all the time, while the tops are dry. Due to the long, covering leaves, there is a lot of shelter for animals underneath. Rainfall can get as much as two feet, while temperatures can go as high as 90, but get very humid.

Regalia Jungle:
Jungle of the Lost:
Makinaw Rain Forest:
Sellusc:

Flora & Fauna

Koran Region

This is the region of Verula that is primarily composed of forests and jungles, though there are some areas of savanna, and even deserts. Many of the plants here are long, lengthy, and leafy, and hold an overall different feel when compared with the jungles of more moist environments like Shveki. Animals such as monkeys, sloths, a variety of deserts, elephants, lions, cheetahs, water buffalo, and more can be found in this region, as well as other more magical inherited beasts such as chimera, manticores, some phoenixes, and more. Many of the plants range from palm trees to large, flowering trees such as acacia trees, eucalyptus, and more.

Regima Region

This is the more desert and dry part of the region, with more shrubbery like plants and wildlife. Many of the animals in this area, or born in this area, are smaller, and more sturdy for survival in these hot and extreme climates. Animals such as small lizards, foxes, a variety of small birds, snakes, and rodents live in these parts of the region. There are some forests and a small amount of jungle, but the majority of it is composed of grassland savanna and deserts. Plants are mostly shrubbery or small trees, and there are a plentiful amount of cacti and other pointy, gruff plants lying around. Some carnivorous plants live in these areas of Verula, as well.

Lakes, Rivers, & Oceans

Regima Ocean

The Regima ocean, one of the largest of the oceans on Nuira, and home to the Lakara, the Verulan side of the Regima ocean has many beautiful sights to behold, such as wondrous undersea caverns, and beautiful coral reefs. There are also a multitude of unique sea life hidden within its depths. Much of Regima Ocean hasn't been explored yet, and there is still much to learn about it. For more information regarding Regima Ocean look at Layrian's description of it.

Korani Gulf

A large, beautiful gulf that connects to Lorel Ocean, this gulf is known for being incredibly salty. Most aren't entirely sure how this gulf managed to become as salty as it is, but historians believe it is due to its age, and how much erosion has occurred in this area, and it certainly shows. The gulf is relatively easy to get to, and appears as a calm beach. The areas around it that aren't beach are composed of very soft, fine rocky surfaces. The actual bay is more shallow than other oceans, until it reaches Lorel Ocean, in which it immediately seems to drop off into a sharp ravine. The life in Korani gulf is very hardy and sturdy.

Lorel Ocean

The ocean between Shveki and Verula, it is one of the warmer oceans, due to its location along the equator. But don't be fooled. Despite it's mild temperatures, this ocean has been around probably the longest of any other, and has one of the largest trenches in the world, at 9200 feet deep. Many strange species of fish and dragon alike have bee discovered lurking in its depths, and there are rumors that an ancient, underwater city, home to the ancestors of the Lakara, resides somewhere within this ocean.

Junta River

A large river running straight across the continent of Verula, dividing it in half, sort of. The river is home to large rain forest at the center of Verula, and has one of the cooler climates on the desert continent. It also has served as a treacherous boundary across time, as the waters of the river can be aggressive, and thus, served often as a border between ancient, dueling tribes from long ago. It is also a preferred mating site for many animals due to the mild temperatures. The most aggressive parts of the river are probably near the center and near the gulfs and bays of Verula, where it exits.

Sakara Lake

This is a small lake within the Koran region, located near the southern tip of Verula. This lake is a very pure, very concentrated area, with water so clear it is said you can still see the bottom even at the center. It has been a lake and waterhole well known for its good hunting and, for some religious groups, most specifically the ones in the Ki'sha, it is regarded as a very spiritual place. The lake has some history, but not much is known about it other than the folktales surrounding it.

Auro'tuk River

Another river that runs through the Ki'shan territory, this river is frequented often, and goes through part of the jungles, and forests, before it finally comes to a stop in the savanna. It is located near the coast, as are many other, smaller rivers that lead into Verula from the coast.

Iguiski Bay

A large bay that is on the opposite of Verula, that runs along the Southern Atlantic Sea, it is unusually prone to earthquakes. The bay has also experienced of a variety of tsunamis and typhoons, and most of the bay is bordered by large cliffsides, which drop down into the bay's crashing waters. Many rivers, including the Junta River, lead out into this bay, and some of them come out as waterfalls. The waters here are generally regarded as more aggressive than at Koran Gulf, but can still be home to a variety of dragons. Some of the cliffsides even have caves that have been dug out from erosion.

Shveki

[3] Map and Information [WIP] Map03a12

Environment, Temperature, & Weather

Mountains

Much like the alpines of Layrian, the mountains of Shveki range from freezing to quite warm and enjoyable, though, this is mostly a noticeable difference in the summer times and winter times. The mountains farthest to the north are generally very cold and ice, while the ones closer to the swamps and other, calmer environments, such as the jungles, are generally warmer. The mountains generally get about as much rainfall as the jungles or alpines, depending on where they are, and depending on which side of the mountain you're on, the weather can be either very dry or very wet. There aren't a whole lot of storms in the mountains.

Swamp

Unlike the swamps and wetlands of Layrian, the swamps here are much more lush and widespread, with much taller trees, and a much wider variety of animals. Many of the swamps within Shveki are also home to the Xoya, who are a tribe that primarily dominates the forests and swamps of Shveki. It can get rather humid and hot here, but there are some places that are more bearable than others. Similar rainfall levels to forest, and the weather is generally pretty calm, with the occasional hurricane or storm.

Forest

Probably one of the only areas in Shveki that actually has a calmer environment, the forests are a wonderful environment with mellow temperatures that don't usually get out of the 80's, and weather that isn't usually too dramatic. Though, there are occasions where tornadoes can form, but due to the environments that usually surround the forests, such as the mountains, rain forests, and swamps, tornadoes aren't very likely. Hurricanes and tropical storms are known to pass through here from time to time.

Rain Forest

Being the largest biome and environment in Shveki, there are a plentiful amount of rainforests with deep rooted history. The rain forests in Shveki are much larger and generally more fruitful than the ones on Verula, not to mention they generally get more rain and the temperatures can often be slightly on the cooler side, depending on where you are on the continent. There are many wonderful rain forests spread all throughout Shveki, and many of the rain forests make up the territory of the Valeterrene, though because of the widespread nature of the rain forests, obviously not all of them are within Valeterrene borders.

Flora & Fauna

Skeval Region

This is the northern region, composed primarily of mountains and forests, with a little bit of rain forest.

Lutha Region

Lakes, Rivers, & Oceans

Gulf of Luthalan

Koragai River

Pukcta River

Southern Atlantic Sea
