Her Calling [Open] Empty Her Calling [Open]

Post by Scortia Wed Apr 19, 2017 1:49 pm

Leading a tribe was a tireless job. But one that Scortia thought she carried quite well. It had been roughly a week or two since the grand meeting, which she had come back from feeling... uneasy, to say the least. She couldn't quite explain why she felt this way. But she didn't really feel nervous, scared, or paranoid. It just made her feel.... different. Of course, being the way she was, she ended up becoming paranoid about the strange feelings she was having. After a while of pacing back and forth, the Kuz'a had decided to go see the shaman. This couldn't just be a coincidence. Those feral dragons from the other tribes must have done something to her!

However, once she had arrived at the hut of the shaman, and had been properly examined, the shaman told her that she did not find anything wrong with the Kuz'a. This only made Scortia more frustrated. She shook her head, growling. "Are you sure, great seer of the skies? You sure it's not Rattle's Foot? Or the Bloodmouth?"

The dragoness shook her head, "No, your Greatness. You are absolutely fine. I would prescribe a nice cup of soothing herbal tea, or perhaps some Chikhol tea to calm your nerves."

For a moment, the Kuz'a considered this. Then she shook her head. "No, no. That is alright. I will go for a fly, to clear my mind. I may take your advice on that Chokhol tea, sometime, though," she said with a small smile. Scortia then spun around, and darted off into the skies, flapping her wings soothingly, as she carried herself over the savanna, too troubled to remember to take an entourage of guards with her.

She was completely alone.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Imperia Thu Apr 20, 2017 8:07 pm

Imperia was training, this might have surprised her casual acquaintances; as the silver dragoness always did her best to appear graceful, like everything she ever did was effortless and instinctive. That she would tire herself out, even a little bit, was a ridiculous idea.
She'd practice and show off her skills all the time, but only dragons who knew her really well had ever seen her do something as undignified as panting.

But at the moment Imperia was almost at her limits. She'd been flying back and forth across the sky for hours, trying to practice her speed. Her wings were aching, and her magic was almost spent, she doubted she could stand or fly if not for the little bit of magic she had saved in order to keep herself floating.
She began to drift, letting the natural winds take her wherever they were blowing, she knew she ought to go back to her home before she became too tired to get there; but she felt she deserved a few hours of relaxation first.

It was pure luck that she spotted the other dragon flying as well, Imperia hadn't been wasting magic on scanning the area, and she hadn't been specifically looking for anyone. She simply happened to see the shape of another dragon, flying low and slowly.
Perhaps it was someone looking for her, or maybe just a traveller. Imperia summoned a gust of cold air and let it swirl around her for a moment, until she felt like she was ready to act presentable and pretend she hadn't been doing anything at all.
She perked up her stance and her wings, ignoring the desire to have them droop low. Her tail swished behind her in a lively way as she flew to meet the other dragon. It wasn't her most attractive look, but hopefully it would be convincing enough.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Scortia Fri Apr 21, 2017 5:57 pm

Scortia had sort of just been wandering. She had been so caught up in her own thoughts that she hardly even noticed when she flew out of their territory lines. For a tribe that had been around as long as the Ki'sha, and their only competition being the peaceful Stormcallers, it was a surprise they had never bothered to extend their borders. It had simply always been how things were, and Scortia wasn't one to change the system. Of course, she did want to strengthen her tribe as best she could.

She would swoop down low towards the ground, her serpent like body casting a vast shadow across the savannah ground, slithering across the ground like a separate entity of its own. She seemed unfocused, and hadn't really noticed the other dragoness flying nearby.

That was, until the smell reached her. She soon smelled the scent of a dragon that wasn't Ki'sha. This, in turn, made her realize she was outside of Ki'sha borders. Scortia glanced up, spotting the strange, greyish dragon in the distance. It was too far away to make out who it was, but they smelled like a Stormcaller. This made her growl in her throat. Those soft pelts. They had no fighting spirit. It made her disgusted that they even shared the same desert.

But, even Scortia wasn't going to attack for no reason. The dragon was at a distance, and no where near Ki'sha borders, so she supposed they weren't doing anything wrong. It actually made her kind of agitated. Killing something would have taken her mind off her worries....

Scortia wasn't sure whether to fly away, or give the stormcaller a warning to stay away from her territory. She would hover in the air for a moment, quiet.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Imperia Fri Apr 21, 2017 7:53 pm

Imperia saw the other dragon come to a hover. The stranger was a lot bigger than she was, but despite her weariness Imperia felt confident in approaching; even the Ki'shan dragons weren't totally barbaric... right?
She glided down, looping gracefully as she approached. As she got close she recognised who she was dealing with. It was the queen of that tribe. Scora? something like that, and her title might not be queen; like the Xoyan had a bunch of other random words for their leaders. The point was that she recognised the dragon, and knew she was of some significance. Plus she was alone, an unmissable opportunity to strengthen ties with their fellow tribe. Or to gauge the intelligence and threat level of the leader at the very least. Imperia hadn't brought her spear with her today, so an assassination was not an option. She didn't like assassinations much anyway.

She called out to the other dragoness from a respectful distance, speaking in Ki'shan as best she could. Her grasp of the language was okay, in theory, but she had difficulty pronouncing words.
"Ki'shan... I am honoured to meet you." She spoke slowly. "I am queen of..." She frowned, not knowing the Ki'shan word for her own tribe. She switched back to the common language, hoping the other dragon would understand. "I am the queen of the Stormcallers."

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Scortia Sat Apr 22, 2017 6:24 am

As the distance between the two dragons shortened, the features of the stranger began to come into focus, and Scortia vaguely remembered her. Ah, yes, she was the leader of the Stormcallers, was she not? Scortia hadn't memorized her name much, and so couldn't really remember what she was called. She was pretty sure it had started with I, though, and that was about it. Interesting, she thought, seeing another leader so far from their territory without any guards. The savannah could be a ruthless place, sometimes, after all.

Scortia waited until the other dragoness had gotten closer before she decided to speak. Surprisingly enough, it appeared the dragoness could at least somewhat speak Ki'shan. Scortia had the vague memory of the dragonnes speaking some Ki'shan at the meeting that had gone nowhere. That meeting had pretty much ended the same way it had started, with everyone's relations still uneasy.

"Greetings, Stormcaller Kuz'a," Scortia replied. The formal word the Ki'shan dragons used for Stormcallers was Kal'ikes je tempor'a. Though, they did have another word for it, one that was much more offensive than the actual translation. The Ki'sha, oddly enough, also didn't have a word for queen. She switched back to Universal to continue talking. "I am the Kuz'a of the Ki'sha. It is novia to see you fly so far from your home. What brings you this far?"

The word novia was peculiar in Ki'shan, but because she had rarely been exposed to dragons outside of the Ki'sha, there were some words that she didn't know completely.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Imperia Sat Apr 22, 2017 4:00 pm

Imperia smiled brightly. "There's no use in me hiding it, I'm afraid I've forgotten your name. My name is Imperia, and I often fly far from my home so I would make the same comment about yourself. I came out here to relax and think, what about you?"
She hadn't exactly came here to relax, and she thought anywhere and everywhere, but it was more or less her reason.
She glanced around, wondering about the reason for the other dragoness being here. Imperia had been flying about for hours, more than enough time for someone to spot her and plan an ambush. She couldn't see anyone else, but that didn't mean they weren't there.

Post by Scortia Sat Apr 22, 2017 6:43 pm

"Hmm... Imperia. Well, my voci ias Scortia. I would say that I came here to... clear my mind. But that is not of your concern," the queen would say in a curt tone. Well, what can you expect. The Ki'sha didn't exactly like the other tribes, at least not the Ki'sha that were in power. And they especially didn't like the aspect of another tribe existing on the same continent as them, even if the continent was very big, and there was lots of elbow room to move around in.

The dragoness's ear would twitch, parts of her vision growing black. This caused her to tense up, as her head quickly darted to the side, staring at the nothingness of the savannah as if something was there.

"Did you see that?" she asked suddenly. "I think we may have unwanted company...." suddenly, it was like Scortia had totally forgotten about the fact that she wasn't on good terms with the Stormcaller leader. She seemed so focused, a concentrated expression on her face.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Imperia Sat Apr 22, 2017 8:14 pm

Imperia nodded politely, while inwardly growing ever more curious. Not being attacked on sight was a pleasant surprise, and seeing that something was troubling Scortia was fascinating.
"Scortia, I remember now. I apologise for not being able to greet you by name immediately."
Imperia performed a graceful midair curtsy.

Scortia's change in behaviour and her warning made Imperia frown and back away slightly, but when the other dragoness looked outwards warily Imperia instinctively (or perhaps intentionally) edged closer, feeling safer with another dragon nearby. She wished she could use her wind senses, but at the moment it would take too much of her power.
"What is it?" She asked.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Acer Sun Apr 23, 2017 2:38 am

Acer looked up as Scortia took off away from the shaman hut, squinting to identify the dragon, whom he decided looked suspiciously like his mate, Scortia - odd, because Scortia would quite rarely go out on her own, no matter how confident in her own abilities. He knew she'd been acting strangely lately - probably stressed, and maybe she'd just... well, flown off. For curiosity's sake he paused what he was doing and made his way to the shaman to ask her a few things.

When he got to her the shaman was already packing up some of her equipment. Upon seeing Acer approach she politely bowed and addressed him. "Greetings, Acer - is there something I can do for you?" she asked.
"Yes, actually. Was that dragoness that just left Scortia by any chance? Where is her escort?" he replied.
"Oh yes, she said she was going to clear her head," the shaman told him. "I didn't see any escort."
Acer frowned. What was she up to? "I need to check that she's okay," he explained before taking off in the direction of Scortia.

Keeping his mate just in sight Acer didn't think she noticed him following her. Even though Scortia wasn't flying at top speeds it would've been difficult to catch up until she stopped... which she seemed to be, at last. When the shaman told him the queen was going to 'clear her mind', he didn't expect her to be flying outside of the Ki'Shan borders without any escort. As he approached Scortia he suddenly halted, seeing a second dragoness he quickly identified as Imperia, Queen of the Stormcallers. He dropped like a rock and did his best to get closer to the pair undiscovered.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Scortia Sun Apr 23, 2017 10:57 am

As Scortia eyed the horizon, her tail flicking, it suddenly became painful clear she had forgotten to bring an entourage. She cursed in her mind. When she noticed the dragoness get a little closer to her, she growled a bit in her throat. The idiot. How long had this dragon lived in the desert? She should be able to handle whatever came at them. The petty creatures were so used to company they must have forgotten how to survive on their own.

But worrying about the Stormcaller wasn't her concern. She lifted her head again. Something didn't smell right. So far, she hadn't yet noticed Acer, mostly because she couldn't smell him from where she was. Her ears would twitch, listening for any signs of a spy. Or, worse yet, an assassin.

The wind seemed to soak in tension, as the two dragons hovered in silence. Scortia glanced over at the Stormcaller, her eyes narrowed, "I hope you Sarguilaqish can fight." Scortia would say in a brisk, stern tone. Of course, Imperia wouldn't be able to understand what the word meant, because it was Ki'shan slang. But that was probably a good thing.

There was more silence. Suddenly, Scortia would launch a fire blast at seemingly nothing. The intense heat would scorch across the desert ground, nearly tinging Imperia's tail. This probably wasn't on purpose. A large cloud of dust was flown up because of this. Scortia started to back up a bit, watching to see if the thing came back. The thing that, so far, Imperia hadn't seen anything of, yet.

A growl started to form in Scortia's throat again, lashing her tail around, agitated. She remembered the Stormcaller, and looked back over at her. Part of her wondered if this was the soft-bellied sand huger's fault. But she didn't voice this opinion. Instead, she gave the Stormcaller a careful look, before turning back to the cloud of smoke. "Keep your eyes pealed. It could come back..." she said to Imperia.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Imperia Sun Apr 23, 2017 3:45 pm

Imperia pretended she hadn't heard Scortia growl, staying where she was. She divided her attention between the Ki'shan and the desert around them, honestly not sure which one she felt was more dangerous. She caught a glimpse of movement, for a moment, but then it vanished. A trick of the heat? probably not.

Imperia raised an eyebrow at the new word, she had never read that one in any of the books, or heard it in a tutorial. She filed it away in her mind, hopefully she'd find some way to translate it. Or she could just ask Scortia very nicely.
"I can fight, and I'm very accomplished at running away. I wouldn't be out here alone if I thought it was dangerous."
No time like the present. She tagged on a question purely out of curiosity.
"So what's a, uhh..." She faltered slightly. Sargu...laqish?" she finished awkwardly.

She yelped as the fireball flew and exploded beneath them, lifted several metres higher by the hot air before drifting down again.
"It may come back again, but if it has any sense it will be as polite to you as possible." She giggled.
Her wings were beginning to droop, Scortia might notice that Imperia could remain in the air perfectly comfortably without even needing her wings open, but she might also realise how tired the silver dragoness was.

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Ardent Mon Apr 24, 2017 1:25 am

To say she was skulking around was an understatement. Her existence in the Ki'Sha was an odd and lengthy story, starting at a young age, not born of the clan, but taken in. While normally someone like this would have simply been taken as a Shemscaluri, her age had… not elevated her, but allowed her a little more freedom. Once her powers had been found and examined, by a Nftari, her placement, even her very existence, had been questioned, especially given the… odd setting she had been found in, in a lair of glass. It had eventually been decided that while she would still retain the rank of Shemscaluri, she would work much more closely with the Vuuaan than normally allowed, her scales and stars useful in forging, allowing her to easily manipulate metals and other materials at temperatures that would normally cause irreparable damage to another draconiforme.

In line with this, one of her few… boons, had been a small amount of time to herself each week. Mere hours, but enough to hunt both the skies and lands which surrounded Ki'Sha territory, which she was currently doing. Curling high in the sky, higher than any sane creature would venture, where the horizon stretched out into infinity, her stars accompanied her, shielding her from the bite of the almost freezing air, keeping her scales dark with warmth, and her body safe. Watching the land pass by below, the view one would think a god possessed; her gaze was attracted by two odd individuals.

Ardent of course had heard of her own Kuz’a, the notion that she hadn’t imbecilic… But seeing her was a different matter. She knew she was an Amphiptere, of course, and her colouration was that of the desert… but so far from Ki’Shan territory, with no hint of guards, or other beings save these two, her mind completely glossed over the thought this could possibly be her leader, conversing with a much more familiar individual… Imperia. She knew her well, given the… relationship, hidden of course, that she had with a member of her tribe, her dear Sonus.

Content to sit and watch from on high, her attention was completely drawn as an explosion of flames, along with a large cloud of rising dust. A fight? Smirking, she began to lazily spiral downwards, intent on helping Imperia out… after all, if she was to perish, she highly doubted the leader that would rise in her place would be so… understanding of her love with a Stormcaller, nor why it was important to keep it secret. But this Amphiptere… no-one would miss another desert drab draconiforme. Settling in only a hundred or so feet above them, the shadow of her large form, broken by the four stars that followed, hovered ominously over the two smaller dragons. “Well well well… Fancy meeting you out here Imperia…” She mused, casting a bored, yet measured and examining glance at Scortia. If only she had known who it truly was that Imperia was speaking with...

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Scortia Mon Apr 24, 2017 2:11 pm

The dragoness would remain rigid, her body becoming slightly more relaxed after she launched the fireball. For another long moment, she would remain quiet. Then, with a scoff, she'd direct her attention back to Imperia. She found it rather amusing that the dragoness didn't understand what the word Sarguilaqish meant. It definitely was beneficial to her that the dragoness was kept in suspense, but at the same time, she might suspect it meant something not so nice, if she hadn't already guessed so based on the context.

"Another word for Stormcallers," she said plainly. And she wasn't lying, necessarily, but that was far from the whole truth. Scortia, for all her confidence in her abilities, didn't  particularly want a fight with the Stormcallers. They had too many potential tribes that might come to their aid. "Besides, you're right." she added, diverting attention away from the word, "It might come back."

As they would watch the cloud of smoke, Scortia began to hear the sound of wing beats behind them. She would quickly spin around, only to see a Ki'shan she didn't recognize. By the smell of them, they were likely a Shemscaluri. She wore a defensive stance at their arrival, almost blasting them, had it not been for the fact they smelled of Ki'sha. So she paused, raising an eye ridge at the curious dragoness.

Her anger only flared, however, when the dragoness only gave her a bored glance, and even more disrespectful, the runt flew above them, rather than bowing like she should have. The dragoness puffed out her chest with a snort, glaring at the incompetent creature. Even the most backwards Shemscaluri should have enough common sense to bow to their Kuz'a!

However, it also caught Scortia's eye how the dragoness stared at the Stormcaller. She couldn't tell what that spark was, but Scortia didn't like it. Glancing hesitantly back at the smoke cloud, which had all but faded, she turned her attention towards the Shemscaluri, raising her head up a bit, as a sign of dominance.

"And who might you be, worm?" she asked with a low hiss, her eyes narrowed. Even though the thing she had attacked was seemingly gone, she would keep averting her eyes behind her, just to double check, and overall, she just seemed way too tense to appear queenly, thus giving Ardent a good excuse to mistake her for a commoner.

Imperia looked up at the dragon, wary for a moment until she saw the brilliant points of light. She relaxed and smiled brightly. "Ardent! So nice to see you again!"
She turned to Scortia, her smile turning playful.
"If you don't tell me then I'll have to guess what it means. But don't worry, I love being insulted, it's probably at least a little bit true, whatever it means. As for this 'worm' you see-" Imperia had to giggle at the irony of such a serpentine dragon calling someone else a worm. "This is Ardent! I've met her a few times, she's very nice. At least, most of the time."

Her Calling [Open] Empty Re: Her Calling [Open]

Post by Acer Mon Apr 24, 2017 5:59 pm

Acer remained highly cautious as he approached the duo, keeping his body low and avoiding line of sight. He didn't know why Imperia and Scortia were hanging out together, alone, outside Ki'Shan territory. Possibly just an innocent encounter or perhaps there were ulterior motives...

As he stopped to watch them from behind an exposed cliff-face in the dune, he noticed they weren't looking at each other but around them, as if they thought someone was creeping up on them - technically he was creeping up on them but he didn't think that was why they were on alert. He saw Scortia suddenly lurch as if she were going to release a burst of flame and instinctively dropped low and out of sight in time for the dragon fire to dance across the ground, kicking up dust and scorching the sand and rock.
"What has her so worried?" Certainly not him of course, with his impeccable stealthiness; though the thought crossed his mind.

Now in eavesdropping range, Acer could make out some raised voices and the sound of a third dragon landing. In light of this he couldn't help but poke his head back out to figure out what was going on. The third dragon had many Ki'Shan mannerisms... but didn't look the part, being a basic grey as compared to common sandy, yellow, and orange desert born dragons did. He relaxed a little bit unconciously. If Ardent really was a Ki'Shan then at least the Kuz'a was in proximity of friendly dragons.

He snaked a little closer to hear what they were saying, relying on his camouflaged scales and that they would be distracted by Ardent's sudden appearance long enough for him to get behind something.
