The Ocean Breathes [Open] Empty The Ocean Breathes [Open]

Post by Keys Sun Aug 06, 2017 9:30 pm

The ocean seemed to breathe. They receded, drawing in water and then, with a breathful sigh, rushed forward and struck the rocks, beating against the cliff like claps of thunder. And like the passing of a storm, its turmoil was only momentary. With another tired sigh, it pulled itself away in defeat. But oceans are not so easily discouraged. Over time its breaths would erode the cliff into sand and the sand into a beach. Such was the way of things. Such was the determination of the sea. Keys acknowledged this as he observed from cave that sat within that very cliff. It was his cave; his home and his heart, hollowed out by the thrashing waters. He felt insignificant in these moments. Would he ever do anything more than benefit where others have already triumphed? Or perhaps his battle was like the waves; a never-ending one. Only when he had passed would he see success. Victory in death.

..No. It would not be his. It would belong to his legacy; those that lived to benefit from his effort. Though.. Maybe in some way that was a victory in of itself.  A myriad of emotions enveloped Keys. For a moment he felt humbled. Cruel was life. But it was also unfair.

Entranced, he felt himself swaying in harmony to the drumming of the ocean as it swelled hungry and dark below him. Even having lived alongside it for the greater part of his life he couldn’t shake the fear that someday it would swallow him whole while he slept, rolling him against the sharp stones and tossing him about mercilessly until it had pulverized every last bone in his body. His inner peace disrupted, Keys let out an indignant huff, turning and retreating farther into the cave. Candlelight barely illuminated the dismal interior, casting its saturated orange glow up the walls and over the mountains of discarded parchment and stacks of leather bound books. Clutter sat in dusty piles gathered in corners, scrolls spilling out onto the floor. He coughed dryly, the stench of mold tickling his snout. Perhaps it was time he got some fresh air..

Keys flexed his talons, clicking them together indecisively. If he left his cave unattended, there was a chance some thieving mongrel could slip in and take a few souvenirs before he returned. Then again, how could some petty pickpocket have any use for a few old books? Yes. It would be completely fine. He would just take a quick fly around the coast and come back to all his belongings in their place.. He glanced out the mouth of the cave with uncertainty. No.. No no no no. Last time he left he had to fight someone… hurt someone.. He had to.. Pathiel demanded it. It was expected of him, but he didn’t want to. So he would avoid it anyway he possibly could. Keys.. disliked the heretics but certainly didn’t want the injured.. Or dead.

Anxious, he paced in a circle. Leave. Just leave. He winced, his teeth had ground into his gums, which were now bleeding profusely. If you don’t think about it.. He swallowed painfully, the hot and salty taste of blood swelling over his tongue and shifted his weight between his haunches. Do it. Do it.

The silver wyvern rushed forward and with a powerful stroke of his wings he took to the sky with agility and grace. Shafts of light that peeked through the parting of the clouds coruscated against his metallic scales, a halo of light seeming to radiate around him as though he were perhaps an angel. Keys drew in a breath, hungrily lapping up as much clean, crisp air as he could possibly force into his lungs. So rarely he left the suffocation of his cave; his prison where he held himself captive. He was free.

He made a downwards stoop toward the rocky shore, roosting upon a sharp stone jutting out of the water. A cool sea spray carried by the breeze tickled his face as the tide came in around him.. The ocean breathed.

The Ocean Breathes [Open] Empty Re: The Ocean Breathes [Open]

Post by Senka Sun Aug 06, 2017 10:37 pm

The ocean was always a good place to watch the sun slowly die and retreat to the nighttime. The light seemed to get swallowed up by the tides, each wave eating up a bit of the bright, each wave adding a brush stroke of dark into the sky. Hearing the water crash against the cliffs was like a lullaby, it could soothe even the oldest of dragons, even the most anxious. The ocean surely was the place to be in the evening.

So Senka tried to visit it every night. Even when she was settled far inland, the enticing view of the tides dancing under the moon always brought her. She would stay in the same place every night: the very cliffs the waters would rival. Silver claws would stay attached to the wall, and her tail blade would merely skim the waters below her.

It was pure accident that Senka once seated herself right where the tide would stop growing, her body half submerged in the salt water, but after that, she tried her best to remain in that exact spot. The ocean acted as a blanket, and it was then that it started to be a challenge not to fall asleep and become a victim to the harsh ways of the seas. But, the siren song of the tides were something that the dragoness could not resist.

That night was no different. Senka was perched on the cliff, peering out into the waters below her. Her eyes were set on the shadows that stretched across the surf. As she was wondering what it would look like if she hid herself in the shadows underwater (Would it look like nothing was there, like on land? Or would it look like there was a dragon-shaped expanse of nothing-- not even water?), something silver shot out of a crevasse a good distance from her.

Instincts kicked in, and the dragoness was hid into the dark, though, unfortunately, her tail blade was not concealed. Senka scanned the waters west of her, looking for a dragon that would match the metallic blur that she saw. It seemed the blur went past a cliff outside her view. Determined to find whatever almost scared her off the wall, she stretched her arm out to climb towards the unknown dragon.

First arm, second arm, first leg, next leg, wing, then the other. Climbing was rhythmic to Senka. She continued the steps along the wall, heading west and tail swinging in the process.

The Ocean Breathes [Open] Empty Re: The Ocean Breathes [Open]

(Smh, this is a bit lazy but I've been sick. That's partially why I haven't been on to reply.)

Keys loosened his muscles, his shoulders slackening as he eased into relaxation. But even as he found tranquility, the sensation of uneasiness stayed with him, forcing it's way into his attention. Had he not overcome his fear and left it behind? Or perhaps it was not fear at all.. and rather an involuntary sense of danger. His back felt heavy, as though curious eyes weighed it down and burrowed into his chest. He glanced behind him, quickly snapping his head around to see.. nothing. Was it in is head? Keys knew better than to push away his instincts, but surely he was just being paranoid, as he always was.

You really are just a coward. He thought to himself, cursing spitefully under his breath. A terrible, horrible coward. He was no champion. Certainly it was a mistake; a dreadful mistake. You fool.. Your doubt leads you astray. Remind yourself who your god is. He corrected himself, but the voice was not his.

Keys shook his neck, a guttural hum quivering in his throat. Yes.. How foolish of him..
He tilted his snout upward and tested the air cautiously. Yet again, no indication of a dragon presence. Alone as always. As soon as he assumed isolation, a gust of wind kicked up, carrying a unfamiliar smell with it. His nostrils flared and he snorted in repulsion toward the unsavory stench. So his suspicions proved correct after all.

Panicked, he whipped around, desperately looking for whatever danger might be lurking. Where? Where are they? He shuddered and swallowed his anxiety. No need to fear the worst.. Just go back.. Keys pushed off the rock and into the air, withdrawing to his cave. As he rounded the cliff, he nearly collided with something clinging to the cliff face. With a shocked yell, he flapped backward, barely avoiding it.
When he finally got a good view of the figure, his heart skipped a few beats. He felt sick.

The Ocean Breathes [Open] Empty Re: The Ocean Breathes [Open]

Post by Xavierr Mon Aug 14, 2017 7:30 am

To be perfectly honest, Xasheski had no idea what he was doing. Why he had flown so far from his home, and why he was growing so close to the ocean. Perhaps hunger had driven the night fury to such lengths? Surely, he could not tell.... but her was certainly hungry. It was like prey animals had disappeared. The only animals he seemed to encounter now were either incredibly sick, or dead. And he had no idea what was causing this. Did it have to do with that black snow that that had appeared several weeks ago?

Xash wasn't one to prey to gods. In fact, he wasn't even sure if there were any gods in this world. But one thing was for certain. Whatever was happening here wasn't temporary, even though he hoped to god it was. Could it be a punishment of some kind? Why would Xash be punished by nature itself? Unless..... no, that had been self defense. He left to safe himself, after all. The universe couldn't fault him for that.... right?

He let out a soft sigh, letting himself be carried on the wind. Luckily for him, it was a cloudy day, so it was unlikely any dragon would spot him. Heck, it might even start raining, he thought to himself, smelling to air with a twitch of his ears. Maybe some rain would be good. Wash away whatever remains of those ashes that had plagued the land. And perhaps even infected the land far beyond that.

As Xash flew, he began to get a continued uneasiness, like he was being watched. He shifted his wings a bit, his body tensing up. Could someone really see him through all this clouds? He adjusted his flying, quickly, so that he would be within the clouds. Now he was certain no one could see him. The only downside, though, was that he couldn't see where he was going, either.

This only made him ten times more nervous.

Maybe he could try getting closer to the ground. A pitch black dragon flying in the day time was sure to attract attention. Slowly, Xash would lower himself from the cloud. As he did this, he noticed, with mild surprise, how close he was to the ocean. Had he really flown that far? At this point, he could even see the rising cliffs that dropped into the sea. Maybe he should turn back. The sight of the ocean made him way too nervous.

Something black suddenly shot out of the trees, aiming straight for Xasheski. The poor fury let out a scream of fear, attempting to duck. But whatever it was was too fast, and it managed to slash at Xash's side. He hissed, his flying faltering a bit, looking around desperately for an escape.

The thing swirled around, hissing, and quickly flying to latch onto Xash's side. He let out a howl, flailing about. The thing was about as big as he was! Probably bigger. It grabbed him by the neck, hurling him to the ground with a satisfying thump.

There he lay, limp, by the side of the ocean cliff. He glanced up, his vision blurry. The thing was looking around, almost as if trying to figure out where it had thrown him. Not to mention Xash could definitely taste blood in his mouth.

He needed to get out of here. Slowly, Xash attempted to push himself to his feet, but a strike of pain ran through his body, causing him to convulse and fall back down.

Somebody.... help.. he pleaded, though his mouth made no words, his eyes wide.

The Ocean Breathes [Open] Empty Re: The Ocean Breathes [Open]

Post by Senka Sun Oct 08, 2017 1:07 pm

(Sorry for being gone. School n such)

As Senka swung herself across the cliff face, she began to wonder if it was worth missing the sunset for. Though, the sunset happens every day without fail. It was a constant. This was something new; something to break the monotonous way of most of her life and maybe even change the entirety of it...

But the sunset was so pretty.

Senka was thrown out of her thoughts as something almost crashed into her. The sudden movement made her lose her grip on the rocks and sent her into the crashing waves, eating her up as if they couldn't tell the difference between land and dragon. She would not let herself succumb to the waters she felt had gotten used to her.

The dragoness burst out of the water, claws scrabbling to get a hold on the stone wall where she sat seconds before. Senka rested her head on the rocks, half-submerged and breathing heavily, exhausted from the waves battling her. As tiredness ebbed away with the waves, she remembered what had brought her there. She looked up to see the dragon who had almost ran into her and ripped her from her thoughts. It was a silver dragon, undoubtedly the one she was looking for.

"Uh," she had opened her mouth to greet the dragon, but a high pitched scream cut her off. Senka gripped the cliff face, not wanting to tumble into the ocean yet again. Screeches of battle were heard off into the distance before they were cut off, ending with a muffled thump of some sort. The dragoness flicked her ears around, trying to pick up on any sound she could find. Nothing. "Hello." Senka pulled herself out of the water a bit more, now only the base of the tail and below was submerged. "Nice to, uh, meet you, I suppose." She turned her head to where the battle happened. "Should we- Do you wanna check that out? Maybe? I'm Senka, by the way."
