Trials and Tribulations

Post by Prasi on Tue Dec 26, 2017 7:45 pm

Curled black claws scrapped against a slim piece of dusky brown bark covered wood that made up something like a pencil. Inside of it a slim piece of charcoal was wedged to make a fine writing instrument about twice the size of a small crocodile. A fine burnt wood smell could be scented if one put their nose close enough to the charcoal pencil.

The head and shoulders of a decent sized dragon hunched over a large wooden table covered in scrolls and papers. To the left a growing pile of large lobed leaves covered in mucus and snot were accumulating next to the table. A rattling wheeze came from the dark dragons chest as she labored over her work. Sometimes she would succumb to the rattle and cough violently trying to loosen up the phlegm in her chest. Once calmed she would return to her work trying to get as much done as possible. After months of trying to recover and letting the work pile up Prasi had given up on lying still in bed. If she was going to recover it would happen whether she was comfy in a nest or sitting getting stuff done.

Prasi was ever so conscious of how few dragons were settled in the higher positions of her tribe. She needed more trusted members to count on in times like this. Subordinates who could rise to the occasion and take over should she be unable to continue. Not that she was going to lie down and give up on life anytime soon, and come hell or highwater she would fight anyone to keep her position; yet she worried too for the youngsters who only had their parents to care for them should they come under attack. With their forces so unorganized, and only one of what should be two rulers leading Prasi could see trouble ahead. There were several problems she was going over in her mind relating to fixing those most basic things wrong with the tribe right now. One, she had to solidify her rank and marry a worthy male who could help rule and was good at it. As much as she loathed settling with a single male, Prasi was overloaded with work and honestly with her playful nature she had a hard time getting work done. She needed a serious male to help in areas where she was weak in. Plus marrying a male with a decent number of followers, wealth, or family would raise her status.

That doesn't mean I can't have fun on the side... We don't have to love each other to get the job done. Prasi thought while looking over applications and forms for various jobs and things around the tribe. She had a neat pile of forms requesting higher ranks and positions among the tribe. They only helped her in seeing who wanted the job. She still had to test anyone who actually filled the forms and applications out.

She hoped some dragons would come to her for these forms and applications. A few had, and a few had their tests and failed quite miserably. The long bluish she dragon hoped a few good requests would come through. She was half tempted to leave big passive aggressive notes on her favorite subordinates nests to come and fill out forms for higher ranks, but then her adviser would talk her out of such ideas. They had to be willing to do the job, not forced, or nothing would get done or be done correctly.

Being the good little dragon he was by doing the complete opposite of letting Prasi get work down while she recovered from his illness, he fled his caretaker and searched area by area till he found his target.

"PWWWAAAAASSSSSIIIIIIIIIII!!!!"

Charging his younger sister, he ran straight into the front of her leg, lowering his head to headbutt her shin. This was a behavior that he had developed with Prasi, as she was more rough than Rii, which he took in turn as it was ok. Of course, being his giant size, AuSurath rebounded from the headbutt, landing on his rump with a little dizziness as he giggled, before leaping and hugging her paw. "I meesed chu! I wa pu in wit da guy, who di da tingy, where he mad meh do choors liek peek up and cween woom! Wa tarible!"

She heard the distinctive call of her big brother and sighed just before she felt the bump on her shin. Glancing down she spotted the little dragon getting back up from his fall and hugging her leg. This prompted a wide smile before a hacking cough ripped through her muzzle.

It took a few moments for her to recover, coughing the phlem into a giant leaf and tossing it to the pile before glancing to Au again.

"You really need to be with your sitter I really don't want you to get sick like me." she spoke more seriously than she ever normally did to her little big brother. Ignoring the want to pick him up and snuggle him, Prasi called out her door to a guard that should have been keeping watch.

"Can you take Au back to the pori nests please? " her main priority being keeping him healthy despite wanting to fool around with him herself.

AuSurath did not want to take heed of Prasi's warning, and just tried to huggle his sister's leg. "Bu seestowr! I wanna be wit chu!". Seeing her turn to the guard who was most likely not going to appreciate his antics of getting into Prasi's chambers, he would employ what worked most with bigger dragons. Nyuuuu! I nu waaaaannnnaaaaaa! he said while running between the guards legs if not westernish, around in circles and around the front one, back one, then back around to their front leg and just constantly running circles around their limbs to try and evade capture.

Ngozi slowly made his way to where the Rossa stayed. The Nragin was hoping that, despite still being relatively young, he could possibly gain a higher position. Maybe he could become leader of the Nragin? Whatever the answer was, he’d perform it with honor. This didn’t mean he shrugged off his duties in the here and now. He had already broken up a few fights that got out of hand, and helped move some debris from a den.

Once he finally got to the place, he could hear the sound of the Prasi and a hatchling discussing something. He noticed the guard walk in, and and followed on all fours a little while after. He walked in to see the guard appearing to struggle with the Rossa’s little brother, AuSurath. He just shook his head and looked at the guard.

”Are you honestly have trouble with a hatchling?” The Nragin asked before lifting a forepaw and giving a bow to Prasi. ”Rossa Prasi. It’s a pleasure.”

"Good to see you Ngozi. " She croaked feeling something stuck in the back of her throat. A sniffle later and Prasi was looking through papers again; though her eyes flicked back and forth from Au dodging the guard and the guard stopping to greet his nragin superior.

"Everyone should get out of here. I only want the healers in here to check up on me. If anyone else gets this I'll hate myself for it." Prasi paused with her papers to look at both Ngozi, her brother, and the lesser guard as he went back to trying to catch Au.

No sooner had she looked back at the status applications than she began to practically hack up a lung again. At the end of her coughing fit she felt tired, her chest sore, and a scratchy feeling sitting forever in her throat made her groan in misery. She hoped to the gods nobody else got this. Especially her little brother. Without their mother around she wasn't sure if any healer would be able to help much.

He wouldn't let that guard take him away from his sister! He was going to make her aaaall better on his own! He knew the secret to getting better, and no one was giving it to his sister! He would though, he just had to escape the evil guard trying to kidnap him. He would get his sister the cuddles she needed to get better, darn it! When the guard was distracted by Ngozi, or at least in Au's mind was distracted, he stopped and looked at Prasi. Hearing her cough, AuSurath would turn from hiding under the guard to trying to run over to his sister to give her a big headbutt on the leg and a cuddle! Nothing could stop him! At least, in his highly developed mind, he thought so. "Seestow!" he exclaimed before he would attempt to run over to Prasi and give her the ceremonial headbutt and cuddle medicine.

Ngozi looked almost unfazed as Prasi began hacking. It wasn’t anything he hadn’t seen or had before. He could remember going two week with his nasal passages clogged. He couldn’t let out his trumpet-like call during that time, and his whole head felt heavier than usual. He looked at Prasi, almost ready to get moving before hearing an all too familiar voice.

He would have tried to stop the hatchling, but he didn’t really have a safe way to do that, especially with a foot tall hatchling. The only thing he could do was turn to the side and try blocking the AuSurath with the side of his claws. He then looked at Prasi, curiously looking at the papers.

”Any luck finding willing dragon’s to fill those positions?”
