Personality and the Basics

Name: Cassius Azriel Raynerus Percival Aimeri IV (Or just Cass)
Pronunciation: Cass-ee-us Az-ree-el Ray-near-us Purse-ih-val I-mee-ree the Fourth
Gender: Male
Type: Feathered Western Dragon
Species: 50% Aether Dragon, 25% Ki'shan, 25% Valeterrene
Age: 45 years (Human equivalent of, say, 18.)
Date of Birth: June 13th

Personality: Cassius is a rather shy dragon who prefers his books to the company of most other dragons. When approached, most dragons find him somewhat cold, presumptuous and even snobbish. But those who know him best will tell you that he just gets easily overwhelmed and retreats behind his large vocabulary and social customs when confronted by strangers. However shy he may be, Cassius, or Cass as his friends call him, has a good heart, and it shows; especially around Xenithe or his sisters. He never liked play-fighting like other hatchlings, and instead would seek out his mom to do little art projects, or to go out flying above the capital. Or, if she was busy, he'd go pester his dad until Tharasis relented and went exploring with Cass.

Cassius never wanted to be the heir to the throne, and he trusted his abilities to properly rule even less after his accident, so as soon as Jinjuri hatched, he waived his claim to the throne. After she grew up a little, he quickly realized that she would need clever advisors to help her. So he assigned himself the task of learning diplomatic ropes and figuring out the behind-the-scenes activities to better advise her when she did ascend to throne. After Jin outgrew her initial chaos that all hatchlings have, Cassius grew to love pointing her towards some of his favorite books and topics in the Archive and the royal library. He still appreciates spending time with her, although that doesn't happen as often as usual seeing as she's being trained as the heir to the throne of the Vuari. Although loving, Cass is easily startled and frequently flees from young Shula's wild antics and other startling noises to the highest point in the capital; where he could perch for hours and watch the citizens go about their days. Some might call him a dreamer, but he sees himself as a visionary, who's merely putting the right ideas in front of the right dragons at the right moment.

Hobbies: Cassius is a rather odd dragon who sometimes deems conversations "irrelevant", and will frequently end them to go find "more relevant activities of interest." Such activities include: flying, reading, star-gazing, researching, reading, creating new inventions- be it magical or mechanical, practicing magic, reading, sunbathing, swimming, expanding and personally overseeing the Archives, reading, exploring, making art, and reading; did I mention reading? Because he loves reading. Especially new novels and new scientific or arcane theories; which he then has to test, of course.
Likes: Cassius (usually) enjoys spending time with his family, discovering something new, keeping a few shiny trinkets out of Shula's grasp, peace and quiet, flying, and sunny days. But, sometimes, he just withdraws into his own private world and stays locked up in his arcane laboratory for days on end. Usually, he emerges afterwards with a new invention or new theory; either of which he's eagar to try out.
Dislikes: There are many things that Cassius finds, distasteful, to say the least. Foremost among them are: being interrupted, loud/unexpected noises, getting "dragged into unnecessary social interactions", getting proven wrong, unexpected cold breezes, and cloudy nights.
Fears: Cassius doesn't get out much besides the occasional flight outside the city boundaries, so most of his fears are related to being stranded away from everything he's ever known and loved. Specifically, Cass fears the loss of his ability to fly, being alone in an unknown place, losing his family, and the destruction of his tribe. And, lastly, Cassius fears failure more than anything; he'll drive himself into the ground trying to fix things, or solve things, even if they're impossible tasks.
Quote: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua- N- No, I know I'm not making any sense Jin, it's called filler text for a reason- OH, but did you know? It actually stems from some long dead senator's writings: 'Nor is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure.' Quite poetic, don't you thi- Jin, Jin why are you asleep-" #0033ff

Origin, Culture, and Family

Place of Origin: Cassius hatched within the Vuari palace.
Tribe: The Vuari
Position: Prince - Kion Sage
Languages: Cassius speaks fluent Universal, Vuarish, Kishin, Arretiz, Ga'ar and Kenarun. He's always attempting to learn more languages from Tharasis, but he can only learn so many at a time. His most recent academic achievement was learning relatively fluent Kenarun.
Home: High up in the Etcan mountains, in the Vuarian Palace in the Vuari capital city. Or the royal library, depending on who you ask.
Parents: Tharasis and Xenithe
Siblings: Shula (Youngest sister, alive) and Jinjuri (Younger sister, alive)
Relatives: Shazzra (Grandmother, deceased) and Magmantus (Grandfather, alive)
Mate: Too young; and too busy to "be bothered with such nonsense."
Offspring: N/A

History: Cassius was born as a normal, if somewhat shy, hatchling blessed with an extraordinary intellect and a natural talent for the arcane arts. By the time most hatchlings were taking their first flights, Cassius had mastered his wings and was writing papers about the effects of an anti-magic field on innately magical dimensions such as the Astral Sea. His studies flew past in leaps and bounds, until not even his mentors understood the theories he was trying to prove. Cassius ventured further and further into magical theory until, finally, Cassius met his match; himself. While attempting to discover the secrets of a newly discovered dimension's effect on the evolution of creatures, Cassius reached too far and his magic snapped backwards; rendering him unconscious for 2 weeks. When he woke up, his eyes had changed from their usual deep blue color to the blue-gold fade that they are now. Healers theorize that the backlash of magic somehow infused his mind with strange energy from the other dimension.

Physical Appearance and Accessories

Height: 25ft tall.
Length: 27ft long; 52ft total with his tail (25ft).
Wingspan: 76ft wingspan.
Scale/Fur/Feathers: Cassius's body type mostly follows that of his mother with a half scaled, half feathered body. His scales are rounded and primarily dark blue, with a blueish grey stripe along his sides and gentle light blue swirls radiating out across his entire body. He has blueish grey striated feathers along his wings, joints (wrists, ankles, etc...), and jawline. Cass also has a fluffy mane of blueish grey fur extending from his head to near the tip of his tail.
Eyes: Cassius's eyes are a bright, piercing electric blue that fade to a brilliant yellow around the pupil. The yellow part of his iris tend to have a faint luminous glow in the dark.
Accessories: Cassius doesn't wear much, but he usually carries a messenger bag containing all sorts of magical components and gizmos and several choice pieces of jewelry; including but not limited to: 2 earrings, a horn-band, a chain earring, 3+ simple gold necklaces, 2 enchanted intricate cuffs made of silver wiring (details under Armor), and 2 simple anklets. It's become almost a game for him to see how much jewelry he can wear and keep from Shula at the same time. He also usually carries an enchanted satchel, the specific enchantments of that being to hold twice the amount while still appearing the same size.
Armor: Cassius wears no visible armor, but his 2 silver cuffs are enchanted to deflect blows like a magical protective shield. The cuffs only really protect the front of his body; but since Cass has no plans of wading into battle any time soon, that's good enough.
Horns/Spikes: Cass has 1 pair of ridged greyish blue horns extending from the back of his head and a tail blade, light blue in color, like his father before him.

Abilities and Strengths

Abilities:
~Healing Talents: Cassius has inherited several abilities from his parents. He is unable to breath fire or ice, but he has inherited both his parent's ability to heal (And as such has a higher healing capacity; small cuts and scrapes will heal almost instantaneously, larger wounds can take several minutes, and broken bones can take several hours. He can heal both himself and other (willing) creatures. The only catch is that he must be familiar with their anatomy; and while technically still possible to heal unfamiliar creatures, there is a high chance of something going horribly wrong.

~Leaf Speech: Additionally, while Cassius is unable to command plants like his mother does, he can listen to the plant life around him and gain an insight as to the immediate area (within a 300ft radius of himself). This ability does no harm, but instead alerts Cassius to the presence and locations of other creatures such as other dragons, monsters, the local wildlife, sources of corruption like blighted trees and any other effects negatively affecting the plant life. Like, for example, if something was draining the life from the plants, Cassius wouldn't know what was doing it, just that it was happening and a general location if it is within 300ft of Cassius at that moment. This also allows him to easily identify edible plants and water sources in that area.

~Arcane Prodigy: From Tharasis, Cassius inherited most of his arcane abilities. While Tharasis manipulates Essence, Cassius has channeled his abilities away from the combat side of magic and more towards the practical and experimental side of the arcane arts. This inherited magic, coupled with his exposure to that strange dimension, has left Cassius with an abnormally large- albeit unstable- pool of magical strength and stamina (Details under Magic and Weaknesses).

Strengths:
~Mental Prowess: Cassius excels in mental challenges, he can solve problems and puzzles faster than most dragons can even finish reading the problem.

~Arcane Prowess: As aforementioned, Cass is a talented spellcaster, and as such can come up with new spells within a matter of hours; though their casting times is in no way affected by this.

~Mobility: Another of Cassius's strengths is aerial mobility; Cass is faster, more agile, and more flexible in the air than many other dragons combined.

Weaknesses:
~Overthinking: Although Cass is quick witted, he tends to overthink situations to the point of inability to act as he hates to make the wrong decision. This weakness applies to combat as well, especially if the combatant provides him with some sort of hard choice to make. Ex. If he's chasing someone, and they could have fled through one of three tunnels, he would be paralyzed by indecision for by at least a post, maybe 2, while he tries to decide which way they went.

~Unstable Magic: Additionally, although Cass's exposure to that strange dimension left him with a large pool of magical stamina; that magic is highly unstable and will likely lash out in an unpredictable manner when Cass is subjected to a stressful situation. If Cassius is subject to serious injuries (such as a heavy blow, broken bones, a blow to the head, being drowned/suffocated, or any other panic inducing situation) his magic will be unstable for the duration of the stressful situation, and for 1 post after the situation is over.

While his magic is unstable, Cassius cannot cast anything more than the most basic levels of magic without injuring himself or others. If he attempts any medium intensity magic, a harmful effect occurs in a 15ft radius, damaging Cassius, anyone withing the radius; any objects within the radius are unaffected. If Cassius attempts the highest echelon of magic he knows in this state, the radius of harm doubles to 30ft, with the intensity of the effects doubling as well. This harmful effect usually takes the form of a painful psychic scream as the echos of that strange dimension rip through the minds of those in the immediate vicinity. Ordinarily, the pain level from the blast is much like a low level migraine, but the higher leveled blast feels like someone twisting a hot knife in the back of your skull. To clarify, Cassius cannot do this willingly, this only happens when he tries to cast while his magic is unstable.

~Physically Weak: Cassius is not a strong individual, and can be easily pinned down by a larger, stronger opponent.

~Weak Bones: Another of Cass's weaknesses is a direct result of his aerial prowess: his bone structure. Cass's bones are hollow to allow for faster speeds and an edge in regards to quick maneuvers; but due to their hollow structure, they are easily broken in fisticuffs battles.

~Easily Exhaustible: Additionally, Cassius has never been a physically powerful individual. The only physical activity he's good at is flying, anything else will quickly exhaust him if he tries to do it for an extended time (i.e. anything longer than 3 hours) such as running, climbing, swimming, etc...

Fighting Style: Cass prefers not to "get involved in such menial struggles", but if cornered Cass will fight back. His first move will always be to teleport away to a safe distance before flinging bolts of arcane power at his opponent and utilizing his aerial acrobatic skills to tire them out. These arcane bolts are usually similar to firecrackers as his intentions are often aligned towards distracting the assailant and staying just out of range until the guards can arrive. However, if angered, Cass can strengthen the power of these bolts until each roughly reaches the power level of a small grenade. With the firecracker variant, Cass can send out an unlimited amount; for medium strength bolts, Cass can send out 25-40; and for the high intensity bolts, Cass can only send out 5-10. Additionally, Cassius can change the bolts from their usual pure energy state to fire, ice, acid, etc...

Magic: Cassius is highly proficient in the arcane arts. His skillsets can be separated out into 6 distinct classes:

~Abjuration: Abjure: to renounce, or deny. This class encompasses all the protective magics. So things such as arcane shields, walls, barriers, wards, and other such magical protective measures would fall under this category. Cassius's primary abjuration spells can be separated into temporary measures, and permanent measures. Temporary spells are, well, temporary. So as such they are much more potent than the permanent, and can be cast much faster as well. Like many things, the more Cassius tries to stretch the magic to cover, the weaker it gets. So if he only summons one small 10ft by 10ft square, that would be able to survive 10 physical hits, and be able to absorb 3 magical effects. Medium sized ones, such as a protective dome, would be able to take 5 physical hits and/or 2 magical effects. Large ones, like trying to seal off a large room, would only be able to take 3 physical hits and/or 1 magical effect. After these thresholds are passed, any further attacks shatter the entire shield like it's glass. Small have a casting time of one post, medium has 2, and large has 3. Permanent spells are much more subtle than that.

~Conjuration: Conjure: to call upon, or summon. This class of magic involves conjuring things such as objects, flowers, animals, etc... These conjurations are not truly alive, or even on this plane, and can only stay while Cass funnels energy into them. They vanish as soon as their energy source gets cut off. Low difficulty conjurations can be sustained for as long as Cassius isn't asleep, and remembers to keep them going since the energy drain is hardly noticeable. (These would be pebbles, plates, bowls, bracelets, necklaces, and other little things) Medium difficulty conjurations can be sustained for a maximum of 12 hours. (These would be tables, chairs, large rocks, trees, bushes, any normal animals, statues, and other things like that) High difficulty conjurations can stay for a maximum of 6 hours. (These would be other dragons, monsters, boulders, small houses, and other things like that) If Cassius sleeps, all conjurations immediately vanish as he can't concentrate on them while sleeping. Additionally, for every conjuration he summons beyond the first, the time limits are halved. (So 12 hours goes to 6, then 3, then 1 and a half, and so on and so forth)
-Teleportation: While technically just a subset of Conjuration, teleportation is infinitely more complicated than simply summoning a rock, so it gets its own category. Cassius can instantly teleport himself to a place within 60ft, via sight. Or, he can teleport to a place he's has created a teleportation glyph at after a 10 minute ritual, in which he must be able to draw a large sigil on a flat, dry surface. So this wouldn't work underwater, or in a swamp, or anything like that. With this secondary method, Cassius can take as many people that can fit on the 20ft radius glyph with him. So, ordinarily, this would just be 5-6 dragons, but with smaller sizes (like hatchlings) the number can vary.

~Enchantments To enchant an object is to pour raw magic into said object in high enough quantities as to instil it with a magical property. Mild enchantments such as "never let this mirror dull", or "enchant this stone to let off candlelight for a period of 2 hours" take perhaps half an hour, and major ones such as his protective cuffs take weeks-months or even years to complete. While Cassius is enchanting an object (minor or major) he cannot cast anything more powerful than the lowest level of magic per class for the duration.

~Illusions Spells intended to trick or deceive the senses and minds of others. They're your standard non-corporeal illusions, any sort of physical attack or contact will pass right through. Cassius can only produce realistic illusions of thing/creatures he's seen in person. He can create approximations of things he's never seen, but they are severely lacking in detail and can be easily dismissed as fake. He can create an infinite number of small illusions per day (cat sized or smaller), 10-15 medium sized illusions per day (horse sized and smaller), and 3-5 larger illusions (elephant sized and smaller) per day.

~Evocation To evoke is to produce an effect, and as is the nature of such magics, these effects are usually non-corporeal, and made of energy- be that fire, lightning, harmless light globes, or anything in between. Producing a small flame from nowhere could be done an unlimited number of times, but spells requiring a massive amount of energy such as calling down lightning and the like can only be done 3 times per day. An excellent example of Evocation magic would be Cassius's arcane bolts.

~Transmutation To transmute is to change one thing into another. Changing one element to another takes 10 minutes per square foot of material. Cassius can not change living creatures into an inanimate material. He can, however, alter the bodies of living creatures. Ex: giving a cat wings, or turning a lizard into a butterfly. The stranger the transformation, the longer it takes. Giving a snake legs would take a few minutes, but turning a fish into a tiger would take hours/days of focus. He could also change something dead into an inanimate material, but nothing that's still alive. Ex. He could change a dead butterfly into a butterfly made of gold, but not a live one.

Basic Guidelines for Cassius's Magical Abilities: Initially, the amount of energy required to do such tasks by hand is required to cast the spell. Just like exercising, Cass can build up magical stamina to sustain spells longer and to be able to cast more; but building up that strength takes years before he notices any differences. The only way around this restriction is spam-casting spells, and even then he only gains experience in casting that one spell. A perfect example of this would be his arcane bolts. He has practiced them to the point where he can send out swarms and change their elements to suit the task at hand.
