Personality: To any observers, Nihik’la is a casual, laid-back, pleasantly apathetic dragon with a sharp wit and an even sharper tongue.  He is certainly skilled at what he does, but not overachieve in any way, never quite applying himself enough to get the recognition that perhaps he deserves.  This is, of course, all a facade.  He knows his ability, and he knows that if he really applied himself, he could be quite renowned; He does not want to be.  Being renowned would mean being watched, and that would likely lead very quickly to him ending up in a cell, or worse killed.  This is partly due to his abilities and illicitly gained magical knowledge, and partially due to his… unorthodox beliefs.  He believes that the theocracy and matriarchy that controls the Ki’sha should be entirely disbanded, and replaced with a system of government that uses the input of its citizens to make decisions.  He hopes that, at some point, there will be a revolution where the -fei, the Luiaan, the Ugaan, Kal’izi, the Semscaluri, and the rest of the citizen ranks will revolt against the leadership demanding to be compensated fairly for their efforts instead of being ordered around on the whims of a single ruler.  He wishes to assist in these efforts, but knows there are little to none of them, and so he holds his tongue for now.  Due to his revolutionary wishes, he finds many of Ki’sha’s laws unfair, though of course he follows them when he needs to.  Beneath the surface, he is often pretty miserable, and when he’s alone he often finds himself wondering if he’s wrong, or defective, or just deeply misguided.  He suffers from ADHD, which enables him to hyperfocus on certain tasks, but makes it quite difficult to do many of the things he needs to do, such as completing commissions in a timely manner.  Chewing on seeds of the coffee plant helps a little, and he does his best to have a decent amount of those in reserve at all times.  He will use Semscaluri to keep up appearances, but when unobserved he will assign them easy tasks or no task at all.
Hobbies: Blowing things up, tinkering with machinery, workshopping new enchantments, reading fiction, writing fiction (though he's not very good), talking to other dragons, lighting things on fire

History: Born between the curve of an oxbow lake that dries up every summer and a gurgling, meandering river, he had a pretty simple childhood.  The oxbow lake and river both have significant deposits of trona, nearby strip mines provided ample bauxite for the Catalyst Dragons living there, and the limestone and hematite is collectively purchased by the settlers from more distant mines.  While he lived in the settlement, his magical skill outside of his innate ability was discovered and reported, and he received the required training from a Kal’fin.  However, something about the Kal’fin, and how there was always dragons watching, guarding, studying every little move he made, made him highly uncomfortable.  He feigned disinterest and a lack of applicable skill, and as soon as his tenth hatchday arrived he left the settlement to become a Vuufei in the capital.  During his education, he not only learned many of the smithing techniques that made Ki’sha weaponry so prized, but for the first time saw the harsh punishments inflicted upon those who stepped out of line.  He ended up on the receiving end of it a few times as well, the most memorable of those being a perhaps slightly excessive public whipping after repeatedly forgetting to bow to a high-ranking Vuuaan.  Though he’d of course heard the stories, seeing firsthand the strict enforcement of the laws, the harsh punishments, and the treatment of the Semscaluri shook him to his core.  Throwing himself into his work, he rose through the ranks and became a talented Vuuaan, and was expected to earn a position as an elite and learn the Laitifu Technique before his forty-fifth hatchday… But one day, he simply stopped.  He halted all of his efforts to improve his craft, remaining a slightly-above-average Ki’sha smith from age 37 all the way to the present.  This caused a little murmur in the higher ranks, of course, but that faded over the years as more promising candidates began to rise.  Unbeknownst to any others, however, Nihik’la had been quietly honing his magical skill using resources from the Kra’vos, expanding his knowledge of enchantment crafting and general spellcasting.  Of course, all of these scrolls were acquired along with scrolls on other both real and feigned interests of his, such as chemistry and architectural history, under the guise of “scholarly interest”.  He has been experimenting in secret with enchanted weaponry, applying magical effects to mundane weapons, with a particular interest in projectile weaponry.

Scale/Fur/Feathers: His main scales are a dull, almost bluish gray (#484b59) that fades down his legs and down his tail to a dark, muted red (#700a0a).  His underbelly is a slightly metallic gray-black (#2b2b2b).  He has a tattoo on each forearm, a thick white line stretching from the bottom of his inner elbow to a circle in the center of his palms.  He has another tattoo across his back, outlining one of his old whipping scars in white.  
Eyes: A metallic gray-blue (#253757).
Accessories: He wears a scroll-bag slung over his right shoulder, which can hold up to ten separate scrolls at a time along with a separate pocket for other items, and a small (2 in. across, 6 in. long) kite-shaped arrowhead hanging from a chain around his neck.  There are Ga’ar runes engraved along the edges of the arrowhead that read “Through Knowledge and Revolution, We Will Prosper”.  The engraving is too small to read without holding the arrowhead up in front of the reader’s face.
Horns/Spikes: He has a pair of straight horns angled backwards at a 35 degree angle.  They are a darkish gray (#424242).
Overall Appearance: He has an oversized incisor on his left side, which sticks out of his mouth as a snaggletooth.  It does not impede his speech, or any other function.




Abilities:
- Catalysis (An innate magical ability that allows him to lower the activation energy of any chemical reaction he comes in contact with, making the reaction itself easier to achieve as well as increasing the speed at which it occurs.  This is also performed subconsciously within his body to more efficiently process food, as well as to refine the metal ores he consumes.  This ability can also be used in reverse, to slow or stop chemical reactions, which grants him a high resistance to acid attacks.)

- Thermite Jet (Instead of a jet of fire or another reasonable breath weapon, he can instead expel a high-speed jet of burning thermite dust.  This weapon is most effective at close range, and quickly loses effectiveness until the jet fully disperses at a maximum of 10 feet.  This jet can be sustained for up to fifteen continuous seconds per day, unless he has not consumed an adequate amount of the required components. This breath weapon also grants him a general resistance to high temperatures, which is almost entirely localized in his mouth and throat.)

- Thermite Slug (Instead of a short-range jet, his breath weapon can be instead used as a longer-range projectile filled with thermite.  This projectile requires a few seconds (1 post) of preparation, seen by others as him rearing his head back as a glow forms in his throat.  The iron-aluminum projectile formed can then be fired outwards at about 50 miles per hour.  The outer iron layer will rapidly develop rust, then the entire projectile will ignite, quickly becoming white-hot.  This projectile can travel up to 30 feet before it melts and disintegrates, and is effective as a weapon from distances up to 34 feet, though it is ineffective at distances closer than 15 feet due to the ignition delay.  Each Slug takes 5 seconds off of the maximum sustained time the Thermite Jet can be used per day, resulting in a maximum of three Slugs per day.)

- Chemical Intuition (He has a natural intuition, magical in nature, for what components should produce what chemical, and what properties the produced chemical would have.)

Strengths: He has a sharp wit and an even sharper tongue, able to think on the fly and can lie near-flawlessly.  He is a skilled blacksmith, though certainly not a fast blacksmith.  If a problem interests him, he may lose track of time and spend long, unbroken stretches of time solving it.  

Weaknesses: He struggles with time blindness, and often loses track of hours and occasionally whole days, sometimes even forgetting to eat or drink for some or most of a day.  Due to his frequent use of coffee seeds, he has an erratic sleep schedule, which can occasionally impair his cognitive ability.  Unable to let go of the “ironic apathy” facade he’s constructed around himself, he will often appear not to care about things he does or should care about.  He is not a skilled fighter by any means, and will have to rely almost entirely on his dangerous breath weapon if he ever ends up in combat.
Fighting Style: His most preferred method of combat, by far, is on the debate floor.  Barring that, he prefers medium-to-long range, relying on ranged weapons if available and his thermite breath weapon.
Magic: He practices enchantment magic, and though he has extensive knowledge of quite advanced enchantment techniques, his knowledge of any other facet of magic is rudimentary at best and nonexistent at worst.
