Legend of The Stormcaller Empty Legend of The Stormcaller

Post by Sagramour Mon Apr 05, 2021 12:12 pm

There is an ancient legend about the Stormcallers. It is one that is rarely ever told, and it can be heard only in a few whispers of dragons that most deem to be a little too fanciful in their storytelling, perhaps even mad.

It is common knowledge that the Stormcallers are a mostly nomadic tribe, but the reason for this is lost to time and the rewriting of history. There are some who believe that the past of the Stormcaller tribe was much more violent than is now thought. The three heroes of Stormcaller history, Xero, Tempest and Twilight, are not the heroes that history remembers them to be. Not in the eyes of these few dragons. For they participated in the salvation of a tribe that at one time had nearly subjugated all the world beneath their claws through war, and a great and terrible threat...

The story is this. Thousands upon thousands of years ago, the world was at war. All of the tribes were in their infancy as nations or were only an ideal fantasy of some like-minded individuals. Hundreds of feuding factions were attempting to scrabble their way to the top and carve out a domain for their own. That was when a great dragon appeared... Immense in power, will, and stature, this dragon could control the power of storms. In a demonstration of might, this dragon called upon a storm that devastated an entire kingdom, leaving a windswept, charred, soaking swamp behind in its wake. Hundreds of dragons rallied behind this Stormcaller, and soon, with a quickly growing army and the power of the heavens, the Stormcaller began to conquer all the lands of the known world...

Thousands of dragons were now under the rule of the Stormcaller, and many worshipped the Stormcaller as a deity come to Nuira. Word of entire nations fallen to the power of storms spread even to the ends of the world. Those in the lush forests and jungles, those in the depths of the sea, those in the caves and mountains of Nuira, and those in the sun-scorched deserts all trembled at the name of the Stormcaller and their people. And those who did not bow were struck down by the wrath of the skies. But, as is with any powerful and mighty ruler, there were those who were not content with the subjugation forced upon them...

This is the true nature of the forming of the tribes. Dragons of the forests, the seas, the mountains and the caves, the ice fields, the jungles, the lakes, the rivers, and the deserts all banded together to form tribes that would fight for their native lands against the Stormcaller and their power over the skies. It took centuries to gain enough cohesion and enough dragons willing to stand up and fight, but fight they did... And in a war that lasted a century, the free tribes of Nuira managed to defeat and kill the Stormcaller, finally freeing all dragons from the grip of the darkness in the heavens.

Those who followed the Stormcaller were disbanded and exiled from all of the tribes, forcing them to live off of the lands that they had once ruled. Some were resentful in defeat, but others were remorseful and wished to forge bonds with the newly freed tribes of Nuira. But the memory of the iron fist of the Stormcaller was too recent in the mind of the world at large. And so they waited in the darkness of the world, hunted and fearing for their lives, they waited until they were forgotten, only to appear from the shadows once more. They became known as a rather suspicious and sporadic tribe of traders that were desperate for survival. And that was when Xero, the hidden child of the Stormcaller was brought forth to lead the tribe as they struggled to find a place in a world that had once despised them...

Xero and his people constructed Xero's tower and the Twilight Palace as a haven for those whose history must never be repeated, and the minds of the world learned to forget the darkness of the past in favor of accepting the rather mercenary tribe of dragons known as the Stormcallers... Though, they are not known for their horrific past any longer... Now they are known simply for the Tempest Ring. A ring of storms protecting their most secure of havens, and a storm that carries a dark secret.

It is said that the blood of the original Stormcaller flows through the veins of a nameless descendant, and that someday, this young Stormcaller will release the Tempest Ring outwards upon the world from the top of the Twilight Palace, watching as it destroys all in its path in an unrivaled display of horrific glory. This descendant and their people will then be left in peace to rule over empty lands that will know only peace and a gratefulness to the dragons that steward the newly cleansed world. The will of the original Stormcaller will carry on to bring their people freedom and power over all of Nuira...
