Willow, the Blind Dragoness Empty Willow, the Blind Dragoness

Post by Savan Tue Jun 08, 2021 12:21 am

Personality and the Basics

Name: Willow “Floppy”

Pronunciation: Will-Oh

Gender: Female

Type: Western Dragon

Species: Mana Dragon

Age: 175

Date of Birth: May 18th

Personality:

When met for the first time, Willow will come off as a reserved and awkward female, who’s rather unprovocative and calm demeanor quickly falls apart when left alone. Willow can be overly reliant on others to help her navigate and cope with the fact she can barely get around most places, and generally prefers to make herself small in unfamiliar locations. When she feels safe or comfortable enough around others, she’ll be content though will become a bit clingy; constantly following their aura around and generally trying to stay as close to them as possible.

Though if one can bear her reliance, she can care deeply for her close friends, offers to help frequently, and is generally pleasant to be around. She struggles with her own confidence.

Willow carries herself with a nervous posture, constantly looking around, while also preferring to stand behind, or beside a friend, keeping herself small. While she can walk around, she has a hard time maintaining her balance in rough terrain, and usually ends up tripping over small objects like roots or small bumps, which is where she gets her name “Floppy”; constantly stumbling and most of the time flopping onto the ground before desperately clambering up.

Hobbies:

Crafting Essence crystals: As a Mana dragon, Willow has innate talent to craft and imbue Essence crystals.

Practicing: In order to better her understanding of the magic she holds, she constantly meditates and practices it. This also extends privately to her attempts at maneuvering herself better in unknown locations.

Likes:

Listening to/feeling the wind: A calm and soothing song of nature that graces her ears, it keeps her nerves in check.

Listening to nearby wind chimes: The chaotic yet beautiful songs played by nature’s breath, it instantly calms her, and makes her content and happy.

Familiar Aura: There are few things that are better and safer than being beside a familiar body/aura.

Dislikes:

Disruptions: Making crystals requires focus, it's best to leave her alone during this time.

Unfamiliar Locations: Generally speaking, Willow hates traveling to unknown locations, though as long as she has a friend to guide her, she’ll be content.

Overwhelming noise: Hearing, among the other senses is her primary way of navigating the environment, loud droning or similar overwhelming noises can really throw off her sense of direction and focus.

Fears:

Heights - Contrary to a dragon’s flight, some are in fact scared of heights, or at least the feeling of falling.

Being Alone - Some dragon’s prefer no company, but deep down, Willow needs someone to be beside her.

Origin, Culture, and Family

Place of Origin: Unknown/Frozen Willows

Tribe: Rogue

Position: N/A

Language: Universal

Home: Unknown/Nomadic

Parents: N/A

Siblings: N/A

Relatives: N/A

Mate: Reserved

Offspring: N/A

History:

From the shattering of the Weave Crystal deep within the Frozen Willows, Willow is the very definition of a clean slate, her memory irreversibly wiped with no flicker or chime from the past to help her remember. Found by a dragon named Archasis, she finds herself under his awkward tutelage and guidance in a world where her kind no longer exists in commonplace. It seems all but her previous personality has remained somewhat intact, coming off as a rather calm and reserved dragoness.

Physical Appearance and Accessories

Height: 13ft

Length: 20ft

Wingspan: 40ft

Scale/Fur/Feathers:

Smooth, soft scales. Dull violet hue.

Eyes:

Winter green, a cloudy lighter hue of her pupil denoting blindness.

Accessories:

Soft Scarf: Covers most of the front of her body, giving her a semblance of security and warmth.

Pulse Stone [Winter green eyes glittered with gentle energy, of a sight never seen.]
Traits: Fragile crystal. Allows Willow to see the world in a different sight temporarily, it counts as an improved Magi-Sight. Must be recharged between uses. Requires a lot of Essence/magic to recharge, which will exhaust her eventually.
Stress: Remains active for roughly (1) hour. Mana dragons can recharge it up to (2) times a day before becoming exhausted. An Essence crystal or other dragon can only recharge it (1) time per day. It takes several minutes for a dragon to recharge the crystal, whereas an actual Essence regenerative crystal or cluster can recharge in just a minute's time, though for such a small crystal it is still enough for a cluster to be sapped of most of its Essence.

Occasionally, Willow may gain a semblance of truer sight by issuing a pulse of Essence from her crystal hanging from her choker, remaining active for about an hour. It cannot regain Essence on its own and must be recharged either by Willow, another Mana dragon, a dragon of similar powerful magic, or an Essence crystal. It takes a lot of Essence to fully recharge, and high demand means even a Mana dragon will tire from constant use.

When used, it allows Willow to see the Essence coursing within creatures and plants around her, albeit faintly, creating an almost simulacrum effect, though there can and will be gaps in this sight depending on the environment. E.g. A badlands will have little to no effect, whereas a forest can allow her to navigate with greater accuracy.

This also translates to dragons, depending on how in tune they are with magic/Essence, she can see specific vein-like ley-lines traveling through them, allowing her to see their form more accurately, such as where they are facing and how far they are from her, as well as any bio functions specific to magic or Essence, ala Savan’s Aetheria.

Should the crystal shatter for any reason, the crystal will do the following:

  • If the crystal is filled with Essence during its destruction, it will unleash a blinding pulse, temporarily blinding nearby dragons for a few moments, while completely knocking its wearer out for no less than ten minutes, rendering them unconscious. The wearer will also become absolutely blind for about a day with an intense migraine, both which eventually wear off slowly for the next day. This translates to Magi-Sight, effectively nullifying its properties until then. (Migraine can be alleviated through normal means.)

  • If the crystal is empty, it will cause absolute blindness in the wearer and a moderate migraine, both which last for up to half a day, to which it wears off rather quickly. (Migraine can be alleviated through normal means.)

The reason behind this sudden blindness is from an Essence feedback loop that is caused within the dragon’s mind, which has an instant negative effect on the dragon. It’s best not to shatter a Pulse Stone, as they are exceedingly rare and just as hard to create. Very few dragons understand how to craft one.

Armor: N/A

Horns/Spikes:

Two white horns that curve backward, curving downwards at a slow angle. A single ring of dull violet appears near the end of the horns.

A large teardrop shaped crystal sits embedded in her skull, glowing gently.

Overall Appearance:

Willow stands as a small curvy figure, soft colors of violets gracing her body while a darker hue runs across her lower body. Two horns droop back from her head with one violet ring each standing near the end, she is devoid of spikes otherwise. The membrane of her wings are a bright blue, having shown no tearing or much use. She holds no spike on the end of her tail.

Abilities and Strengths

Abilities:

Magi-Sight [Treat it not as sight, but as a deeper sense of those around you.]
Traits: Follows the same rules as normal eyes. Can be used as poor night vision. Can only see dragons and Essence crystals. Dragons and crystals appear as blobs of a singular color depending on their element/species, and can have multiple colors if the dragon has more than one element/breath. Both dragons and crystals appear dim or bright depending on how connected to  Essence or how filled they are, respectively.

All Mana dragon’s have the innate ability to see the Essence of other dragons and Essence crystals, but not other creatures. Dragons are brighter and dimmer depending on the connections they have with Essence. Be it night or day, fog or rain, they see the aura clearly, though not the silhouette of the dragon him/herself. Because of this, she commonly refers to others as ‘beacons’ and ‘auras’. For the purpose of cover and line of sight, Magi-Sight cannot detect a dragon that is concealed behind cover, nor discern well if two Essence sources, crystal and dragon for example, are behind one another. A dragon and crystal are a hazy blob of colors barely making out any form, their colors may mix as well, further complicating the matter.

For all intents and purposes, Magi-Sight can be spoofed by certain abilities and magic; a dragon who may create mimics of themselves to throw off hostiles during battle can also be seen as Essence auras. This also extends to summoned [but not created] creatures, though a Mana dragon may be able to tell the summon apart depending on its size and nature. Created creatures, such as golems maintained by Essence crystals for example are not extensions of a dragon, and therefore cannot be seen through Magi-Sight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mana Stone
Trait: Mana dragon’s source of power. Will not live long if it is excised for any reason. It is exceptionally difficult however to rip it from the skull. It can be damaged, but is extremely hard, if it is, it will cause temporary problems, physical and mental for the Mana dragon, but will eventually repair itself.

Not an active ability, though a passive trait to all Mana Dragons, it has a few nicknames; Skull gem, Mana Crystal. The Mana Stone gives Mana dragons the functionality to utilize Essence on a magnified level, so much as to regenerate it at an accelerated rate. Though this natural evolution has made them more frail in turn.

The Stone itself can be excised from a Mana Dragon, though this guarantees their eventual death; it is technically a critical organ. Regardless if one attempted this, it would be nearly impossible for one to extract this potent stone, and they are equally hard to damage. If one is damaged however, the dragon itself becomes greatly debilitated, and it will take time, up to a month for the fractures to settle and seal.

When a Mana Dragon dies, the stone itself dims, its reserves permanently lowered to about half of its original capacity, and from then on becomes a unique regenerative Essence crystal. The only time a stone is easily extractable is when a Mana dragon has perished, and then has become nothing but bones; desiccated. All one truly needs is patience, and something to either carve through the skull, or shatter it. Though it’s considered taboo in most Tribes to collect Mana Stones from slain Mana dragons. In order to keep one and to not become the ire of every Mana dragon, the stone must be carved, either simply to denote this is an honorable keepsake, or to reveal a storied history between the bearer and Mana dragon; though no one is stopping a Tribe-phobic Rogue from keeping one. Mana dragons can also tell a Mana Stone by nature alone, so be warned.

Strengths:

Exceptional Hearing - Of the few redeeming qualities of Willow is her heightened sense of hearing. She can be aware of her surroundings to an extended degree through background noise. Though it does tend to put her on edge quite often.

Mana Well - Her magic is potent, raw even, she is a battery of Essence waiting to be unleashed.

Weaknesses:

Blind - Willow is blind, she cannot see, nor find her way as accurately as others. She is easily vulnerable to attack and nearly useless in melee.

Physically Weak - Willow isn’t strong, and is easy to defeat in close quarters. And overpower

Unarmored - Mana dragons do not have good durability, their scales are weak and easy to pierce.

Fighting Style:

Willow relies entirely on ranged magic to defeat her enemies and is beaten very easily when she is engaged in close combat. Even if she has a ranged advantage, she can’t discern cover or obstacles in the heat of the moment, and is generally the back liner.

If anything, she best uses herself as support.

Magic:

Mana Beam
Range: 150 Feet/ 45 Meters. Roughly 1 Foot/ 0.3 Meter Beam Diameter
Power: Decent; most dragons can ignore the pain.

An instantaneous beam is loosed at the target, causing knockback and decent damage. It can be prolonged for several seconds. The attack is telegraphed as her maw lights up with a bright blue energy moments before she fires, which allows dragons a chance to dodge. It can leave scorch marks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mana Ball
Range: 200 Feet/ 60Meters
Speed: Narratively Very Quick/ 90 mph/ 40 M/s
Power: Serious; it is not to be underestimated. 6 Feet/2 Meter Explosion.
Cooldown: (2) Post. Narratively a minute or two.

A ball of pure, unstable Essence is fired down range from the maw, traveling very quickly. It detonates violently when it strikes its location, leaving a small crater in most rock and dirt surfaces. It’s powerful enough to send the heaviest dragons sliding a few meters back. It can be intercepted with a skillful shot of another projectile.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mana Shield
Range: 40 Feet/ 12 Meters (This counts both Height and Length) VARIABLE - The size can be increased/decreased as needed.
Power: Immune to/Blocks Elemental breaths, magical and physical. This includes natural objects such as rocks, debris and dragons unless Willow allows it. The shield can be moved, but its coverage is halved during movement.
Cooldown: Three Posts if it is shattered or wears down Willow.
Stress: Willow can maintain the barrier for up to (7) Posts when under complete duress [This duration ticks down when hit], the shield can be shattered up to (3) times before putting enough mental fatigue on her to tire her out from this ability. She can however overexert herself for (3) posts on any of these attempts to maintain it, if she stops on any she collapses unconscious for 2-3 hours. During this overexertion, Willow will not be able to move due to focus and adrenaline, and the shield extends to its farthest radius. If she is somehow attacked during this state and knocked back, she faints.

Willow may expand a magical shield around herself and others close to her to protect them from incoming sources of damage; fire breath, falling debris, anything magical or physical cannot enter unless she allows it. This requires great focus and depending on what hits the shield, may greatly fatigue her.

The shield can be blocked from either side; from the outside or inside, and vice versa.

For the purpose of dragons possibly unable to be considered inside the shield:

  • There is a capacity limit for the shield, and up to a maximum of (4) dragons can be inside at once. They are considered entirely enveloped within the shield no matter what.

  • If Willow is mobile for any reason, only (2) are allowed inside. They are considered entirely enveloped within the shield no matter what.

This rule does not count if Willow is knocked away; in this instance, the Mana Shield ends. It is wise to protect the floppy one.

As a final piece of advice, it should also be advised that if Willow has this engaged, and is in a dire strait, a friendly dragon should communicate a plan of action with her before moving. They are also advised to have something for Willow to hold onto or a verbal cue; remember, she is blind, even her Magi-Sight will be ineffective. Call to her, nudge her, wrap your tail around her neck, or have her bite it to let her know you and the dragoness are going to move.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Augment
Range: 300 Feet/ 91 Meters
Power: Targeted dragon’s elemental/magical power is doubled. Abilities not offensively related are instead twice as efficient.
Traits: Can be used even after losing range; it has no cooldown. It will steadily wear Willow down at a very slow rate.
Stress: Can Augment for (10) Posts and only ticks down upon activation of an ability. Can overexert for an additional (3) Posts before fainting. For an overall reference, Willow can safely maintain this power for a total of (10) Posts. This also goes with non-offensive abilities and it will only tick down on execution of either abilities. Willow will also narratively become increasingly tired from maintaining this; she can regain some length of back through prolonged rests, but that takes time. She can overexert herself past the limit for up to (3) additional Posts, if she does this for any length, she’ll fall unconscious for 2-3 hours. She will need a night's rest to use this again regardless in order to restore the maximum amount.

As a Mana dragon, Willow has the ability to augment another dragon’s elemental power, magic, and breath, increasing its strength and power twofold. Effectively supercharging them. If they are not offensive related, they are then twice as efficient. However she needs to be within range of the targeted dragon for it to take effect and be maintained. This will wear Willow down based on how active the targeted dragon is. e.g. if the dragon constantly uses fire breath, it will fatigue Willow at an accelerated pace instead of a dragon delaying and timing their attacks.

Willow cannot Augment herself. She is only able to Augment a single dragon.

Patch Note Bump:

Provided a Stress Blurb to Pulse Stone to help reference the amount of energy needed to recharge it.

Mana Beam now has a rough diameter of the beam from source to target. And a helpful reminder to dodge.

Mana Shield has an accurate Stress blurb.

Augment now has a Stress blurb

"It is wise to protect the floppy one" is the best thing I've read all day-

Physical Appearance and Accessories

Accessories: You mentioned it can be recharged twice per day, but how long does it take to recharge the crystal during those periods? And does becoming exhausted mean that they can't cast any more magic that day? Or just that they can't recharge the crystal again?

Abilities and Strengths

Magic: Last notes here, how many dragons can Willow augment at once? If she can augment multiple dragons, how long can she keep multiple augments going?

Bump when edited!!

EDIT BUMP

Patch notes:

1. The following has been placed at the end of TRAITS:

It takes several minutes for a dragon to recharge the crystal, whereas an actual Essence regenerative crystal or cluster can recharge in just a minute's time, though for such a small crystal it is still enough for a cluster to be sapped of most of its Essence.

2. The following has been out at the ending paragraph of the respective topic:

She is only able to Augment a single dragon.
