Personality and the Basics


Name: Ryujin
Pronunciation: Ree-oo-jin
Gender: Female
Type: Drake
Species: Abysswing(eventhoughshehasnowings)
Age: 22
Date of Birth: July 21st
Personality: Ryujin is a boisterous loudmouth who isn't afraid to say what's on her mind, big or small, you're on her list of things to be talked about. She doesn't much care for too many social norms like proper etiquette, preferring to just be herself in any situation that she ends up being in, even if it sometimes gets her hurt.  She's the type who takes her crew's thoughts way before she takes some random wanderer's because she believes that family comes first, no matter what and will lay down her life for any of them. She was also hatched with a mild case of ADHD, and because of that, she almost always does something either involving some kind of beating on an object or strange and unusual ideas that just flow from her brain. She also has her soft side, specifically for those who are going through some tough times, and she just can't help but sympathize with them because of her own upbringing.

Hobbies: Ryujin enjoys her time out on the ocean collecting little nick nacks to decorate her room shipside, and she's even trying to write out a novel that stars yours truly, though she's not very good at it. Otherwise she's either making sure the deck stays clean or yelling at Fille.

Likes: Traveling the deep ocean, sailing the seas, you name it, anything involving the fresh water and she loves it, along with fighting anything bigger than her.
Dislikes: Smug pricks who don't back up their attitude with their actions, when her things go missing, and absolutely when something insignificant goes wrong, like the winds blowing the wrong way than what she predicted.
Fears: Ryujin isn't afraid of much in the world, but she'd be afraid of losing her whole crew because of something she did, along with a crippling fear of really high heights, enough to make her body go into a panic.

Origin, Culture, and Family


Place of Origin: She was hatched on her mother's ship.

Language: Lakaran Sign, Universal, and very basic 'hellos' and respectful gestures for other tribes.

Parents: Zolt and a mysterious dragon
Siblings: She counts her crew as her siblings

Mate: A mate would only slow me down!

History: Ryujin was raised in a rough environment ever since she was hatched. Her mother was understandably hard on her considering their situation, and through storm and day, she was cared for until she turned 8 years old, which was when her mother finally put her to work on the decks of the Mirrored Fang, keeping it clean and making sure no stowaways tried to stay on their ship.

During what little free time she had on the sea, she practiced shadow fighting, using poles or anything she could get her claws on that she could pretend was a sword, setting up a training dummy with another pole to act as a faux sword. Whenever she could, she would try to perfect her art with this stationary target, and plenty of times she was caught while on duty and swiftly reprimanded for her antics, and eventually it got to the point where her mother had just decided she would teach her how to swordfight personally, which allowed for Ryujin to truly experience how a fight would actually play out.

When Ryujin finally reached her late teenage years, she was the adventurous gal, and this had gotten her into quite a situation that resulted in her gaining a crippling fear of very high heights. She heard word from the mouths of settlers and sailors in the port towns of the Lakara of treasure being in the Vuari mountains, and she just couldn't help but look into these claims, which indeed led her to the mountains after days of deserting from her mother and her ship, and she ended up finding old ruins that looked like they had been built not very long ago, though they couldn't handle the mountain's landscape to stay stable, so it collapsed, leaving behind rumors that Ryujin followed.

Ryujin had entered this ruin, and she hadn't even made it to the third room before she had misstepped, her foot making a section of the floor cave in, sending her into a free fall down some kind of chamber filled with black chains, an unfinished contraption, she guessed at the time, but by the graces of some divine force that just so happened to intervene at the time, Ryujin was able to catch onto one of the chains with her back leg, wrapping and snaring her in it, while her free claws grasped two more chains to slow her descent, just barely being able to stop herself from being completely splattered against the stone floor underneath her, leaving her shaking and thankful of her quick thinking.

She managed to climb her way out of the chasm using the chains and her strength, and to her annoyance, she couldn't get the chain that caught her leg off of it, like it had some kind of mind of it's own and was refusing to come off, so instead dog continuing at it,she just pulled up a large section of the chain, and broke it off from the rest of it, giving her a sizable chain to use; so she would end up making a kusarigama out of it after she returned home.


Three years before present day, the Mirrored Fang docked at one of the port towns, and Ryujin decided she was gonna have some time on the town, maybe steal a drink or two from the local bar, who knows what could happen. Well, she did indeed do that, and even got away with it, if you count eluding the bar owner as 'getting away with it'. Having aquired her new trinkets, she hid herself in an alley, where she would enjoy her drinks in peace; up until she was found by a young ki'shan, of all things.

Being a hearty spirit, she offered them her other drink, and they both hit it off, becoming quick friends over a cold brew, and Ryujin had quickly fallen for this young lad, but she didn't quite have time to express it before the two were accosted by the local guards, prompting Ryujin to flee with her new friend, cutting through backways and eventually losing the pursuers to her relief, giving them the time to finally introduce themselves and break the ice a little.

The two seemed to click, and they went to purchase a room at the local inn, somewhere private for them to get to 'know' each other a little better, until the next day when Ryujin had to abandon her ki'shan friend to head back to sea, not wanting them to get into the same kind of business as she was, and like that, she hadn't seen them again after that.

Physical Appearance and Accessories


Height: 20 feet
Length: 40 feet
Wingspan: N/A
Scale/Fur/Feathers: Her main scales along her body are black with her underbelly being dark blue and the Lakaran light up scales being a bright yellow that are darker when not in use.
Eyes: Yellow
Accessories: They wear a tricorne with a red bandana underneath, a pair of golden earrings, and a strange black chain wrapped around her back left leg.
Horns/Spikes: She has horns that curve slightly upwards at a 45 degree angle, along with large fins down her back and belly, some of her back fins ending in long stems with bulbs at the ends of them, like an angler fish.

Abilities and Strengths


Abilities: Ryujin's claws can secrete a toxic venom that if it entered your bloodstream, immediate medical attention would be needed, and the victim would die within 48 hours along with having immediately obvious effects of blurry vision, and nausea after just a few minutes of exposure to the venom. This venom is curable, with the antidote consisting of a mixture of crushed up Ironwood leaves and the juices from at least three Jumping Cholla, found exclusively in the desert sands of the Ki'shan home.(This has the range of her arms, obviously and no post cool down. Considering that it secretes and isn't just her claws, it can be wasted if not used completely, meaning that she has a limited reserve to work with once she uses it, and while she can stop it from draining completely herself, she tends to not do this, most of the time letting it run its course and leaving her with just five posts to be able to poison someone.)

Ryujin's fins have electrical properties that if she were to ustilize them in such a way, she could create a coating of electricity around her body to shock her opponents should the get too close, or try to strike her with metal weaponry. If one were to only have their weapon shocked, it would be like a modern day taser, causing their muscles to contract, and stiffen up, but as soon as the arcs stop, they are perfectly fine and capable of fighting; however if the arcs came into direct contact, it would feel as if you were struck by lightning, making your body completely seize up and stop working for a short time(two posts)(This has a range of 1-2 meters depending on the length of her foe's weapon, with a cool down of two posts.)

The bulbs along Ryujin's fins have a special property that leaks a faint green gas whenever she is stressed, this gas is capable of disorienting both friend and foe alike, putting them into a sort of drunken state that lasts as long as they are in it's radius so she can either flee, or strike. This ability does not affect Ryujin as it is a chemical made within her body, and as such, she has special defenses against it.(This has has a range of 5-8 meters with a cool down of four posts and can only be used once until it is recharged.)

Her front legs can split in half, allowing her to gain two more legs to run even faster on land, bringing her up to 30mph while sprinting, and 15 mph while not using them(Cool down of 1-2 posts if she becomes exhausted from running.).

Strengths: The size of her tail could potentially break bones if one were to be hit with it, she's also not very easy to intimidate should one try, though it isn't impossible. Her time on the ocean has allowed her mind to become quick thinking, able to make split second choices and react a little quicker than your average dragon could. If you ever find yourself in combat with her underwater, she's basically an orca hunting seal at that point.

Weaknesses: Her boastful nature tends to get her into more fights than not and has gotten her many enemies, she's far slower on land than she is in water considering she has no wings and has to rely on her legs to travel, which while split, are structurally weaker to more focused attacks that are aimed to break things. Her toxic claws can't pierce metals, so anything with chainmail and above is basically a safeguard against it. Her gas bulbs can be counteracted if one were to have the willpower to fight the drunkenness off, though they will still be slightly topsy turvy regardless, and to top it off, if one were resourceful, they could puncture or completely cut off a few bulbs to weaken the effect in general, as they are not armored.

Fighting Style: Ryujin typically fights with a scimitar and kusarigama, having an emphasis on disarming her opponent rather than killing them; ya can't have business if you're clients are dead now can you?
Magic: (All of her abilities are biological in nature.)

Personality: you've gotta have a minimum of 5 sentences here! By my count, you've got 4 right now.

Likes: You need 3 here! Technically you may have a third with "everything involving water"? But I'd like you to add another specific thing here, just to be safe


Origin, Culture, and Family

History: Only real thing here is this "divine being" you mention. Who is that? What do you mean here? If you're talking about her meeting some kind of god, that's probably going to have to be changed. DH has legends about gods and such, yes, but as of yet no confirmation of the existence of gods, as far as I know (You'll probably have to talk to our marvelous Keeper of Arcane Lore, Savan, if you wanna pursue this "divine being" thing further)

But other than that, this section looks fine!


Physical Appearance and Accessories

Length: Aight, so only real "issue" here: Ryu's length is 5ft above the usual size limits for drakes (20ft tall, 40ft long), so if you wanna keep her that long then you're going to have to add in another strength that talks about the advantages of her great size. But! It's only a 5ft difference, so if you wanna just drop her length back down to 40ft long, you won't have to add that extra strength.

Accessories: Just a clarifying point here- is that "strange chain" magic? If so, please list any properties it has! But if it's just a funky looking chain, you can leave it as-is.

And- just as a heads up- according to Google- Kasarigama is actually spelled kusarigama, but that could be different from what you actually meant. Up to you if you wanna change it!


Abilities and Strengths

Alright, so this is probably where the most changes are going to need to be made, but most of its just going to be asking for more details. For future reference! We're updating the character creation guide soon, and this is the template we're going to be using for abilities and magic. It doesn't matter what order everything's in, or what format, but as long as you have everything that applies to that ability/magical effect then you should be good to go in the details category.

Abilities:

Venom: Does this have any short term properties? (i.e. stunning someone for a post, or making them dizzy, or something like that.) What are the symptoms, or how do people know they've been poisoned? And you say "immediate medical attention would be needed", does that mean there's only a certain window of time for someone to get the antidote before they're doomed to die? Is there an antidote? If so, what is it? And lastly, how many times can Ryujin use her venom?

Electricity: How badly does this shock her foes? Just like a lil static electricity surprise? Or more like a bolt of lightning streaking down from the heavens? I'm looking for specifics on how strong of an ability this is. Also- how many times can Ryujin use this? Does it have a cooldown period (i.e. something like "must wait two posts before using it again")? And I'm assuming this just happens if someone touches her, but- does this ability have a range?

Gas, gas gas- You say it's nearly invisible, so does it have a faint color to it? Or does it just faintly displace the air like a heatwave on a hot day? Does this have a cooldown period? How many times can she use this before running out of gas? How long do these "drunken" effects last? Are they inherently harmful (i.e. are they going to poison you somehow), or do they just make them act drunkenly? And lastly- "Her gas bulbs can be counteracted if one were to have the willpower to fight the drunkenness off, rendering her gas mostly useless." You say mostly useless here, does that mean that those who manage to fight off the gas are still slightly effected? Please elaborate here!

Leggs: This ability looks fine, but my only question is- As far as I can tell, 80mph is the max speed for a running dragon onsite. And with her legs separated, she can run at 80mph, right? But the thing is, you list her being slow on land as a weakness: "she's far slower on land than she is in water considering she has no wings and has to rely on her legs to travel". Max speed is n o t slow on land, so you'll either have to drop her speed down, or find another weakness.

Strengths: I'm counting 4 strengths and 4 weaknesses, so you'll have to grab another weakness to balance everything out. (This is in addition to the issue with her "speed weakness", so you'll still have to fix that one as well.) And your last weakness- That feels more so like it's just another part of her gas ability (that should be mentioned in said ability's blurb).

So if you could move your last weakness into the gas's section in your abilities? And then replace this weakness as well, but with something about Ryujin herself. Maybe when her legs are split, they're both weaker than normal? Or her bulbs can be targeted and ruptured or disabled somehow? Up to you! But either way, make sure they're weaknesses directly about Ryujin, rather than about her abilities or something that's not directly about her, if that makes sense?
