Personality and the Basics

Name: Cor Diraa’Tol
Pronunciation: Core Deer-Ah-Tole
Titles: Chronologically:

The dragon that howled back/Shade Hunter
The Sand Mason
E’Coran’s Inferno
Heart of Fire

Gender: Male
Type: Western Dragon
Species: Ashyraak

--Summary--

Ashyraak are to some, on the barbaric side, preferring close quarters to any form of range. While rare, they are often at the forefront of conflicts and wartime subjects, making themselves known through fiery entrances and berserking individuals. They are most commonly found on Verula, and inhabit most places which do not have frigid environments. They have an excellent tolerance of heat, tough, and overall reliable individuals, though not all walk the honorable path.

Age: 742
Date of Birth: March 1st.
Personality:

Cor acts with a slight comedic air to his words, though remains with little to no expression. Despite his spiteful upbringing, he is a very hardworking and honest dragon, wishing to further better his people while protecting the few he holds close. He has little need for nonsense when he’s working, preferring that his actions and the others around him have their claws busy. He has an air of humbleness as he walks, when speaking with higher ranks he doesn’t appear bothered about the animosity coming from them, and prefers speaking in a more casual tone when there isn’t a matter needing to be addressed.

Though if one was observant, they can see a dragon who has lost a part of himself, smiling, though only for a short moment. He seems to occasionally lose himself, staring off into space, perhaps over the city of Al’Yaek, or himself from the reflection of the water. A troubled, distant look decorates his face when he’s alone, and appears discomforted at times, fumbling his words to his colleagues and especially those he may be courting.

From a more lighthearted view, he has a slightly troublesome time talking to the opposite gender, and sometimes makes a fool of himself.

Hobbies:

Studying - Architecture, Defense, Tactics, War.

Sparring - With the Ugaan and Aliugaan, and veterans such as himself.

Aiding - Even if Cor is now a warrior, his paws still have some creativity in them, he’ll occasionally help out the artisans and builders of the local village or town. It brings a smile to his face more than anything to be working rather than fighting.

Consulting with the Nftari - Despite his achievements, Cor seeks the gods for guidance and comfort.

Likes:

Salty Food - The sensation of salted meats is something Cor adores.

High Morale - A happy warrior is an effective warrior.

Efficiency - A garrison working like a well oiled machine is enough to satisfy Cor.

Honesty - An honest dragon puts worry at ease and creates stronger bonds.

Dislikes: (Is there anything your character dislikes? At least 3)

Touchy Maim - Cor highly dislikes others looking at or touching the maimed section of his body, and feels incredibly insecure if such an occurrence happens. Of course there are exceptions, but it’s best to respect the Ashyraak. He almost always covers the damage with some form of cloth or armor piece.

Wasting Time/Slacking - “Asaku Su Akae”, “Victory is work.” Is Cor’s signature phrase after his briefings. He greatly dislikes unneeded rest or breaks, only when truly needed does he let his dragons stop.

Cold - Cor is much too used to the heat and becomes discomforted in frigid environments.

Cowards - Cor believes in second chances, though he is not above severe punishment.

Needless Abuse - If a dragon is productive, then they need no further persuasion.

Fears:

Failure - There is no enemy Cor is afraid of, except for his own failure, as well as failing his people and fellow brothers and sisters.

Bloodline - A lighter fear, Cor wishes to keep his bloodline alive.

Irreparability - Cor walks his redemption seriously, and hopes his actions and work will reverse the hate of the other nobility, and the rest of his people. He fears he may cause generations long damage to those that suffered the most by his family.

History:

Cor’s childhood was an unstable one, his future constantly on the verge of collapse by an overzealous family, until it did. Taught through several mentors in place of his parents who constantly worked day in and day out to keep their family stable, Cor’s hopes of one day spending time with them were dashed when he was still a whelpling. Watching one by one, his family was executed for their treachery for causing the Sand Tail Riots; A short but brutal conflict that was done sloppily by the Diraa’Tol bloodline causing damage across Al’Yaek. Cor was left with nothing, his noble title to be stripped and to become a Shemscaluri if none could step up to adopt the little hatchling.

Pity had won the gods over for an elden female Vuuaan took him in as her adoptive son. It took time for the female to console the depressed Cor after his family was all but eradicated, but with time, he would lighten up to be a tiny bundle of joy and energy. The whelpling would take an instant liking to his foster mother, and began spending time with her and her various projects more and more. Na’Tari, his mother, was a well known and respected artisan, architect, and craftswoman, having spent her entire life perfecting her art and trade. She let Cor help her with nearly every project she had, teaching him the responsibilities as a worker. In time, he would always wake up early to help his mother with her chores, no matter the difficulty.

In her off time, she would use Cor’s status as noble blood to gain access to the more prestigious libraries, funding much of his academics and give him the best education she could afford.

When Cor was no longer considered Wawuri, he was presented by an Irezu with a way of fixing the damage his family had done. Many had since used Cor as a means of outlet against his family’s actions, forcing Na’Tari to be careful where he took Cor. But the young dragon wanted to show he could be different. He accepted the offer, being sent off to become a Ki’Sha warrior and pay his family’s debts. Among these unspecified punishments, Core was shipped off to one of the most hostile locations in Ki’Sha territory for his training as an Ugfei.

To say his experience there as an Ugfei as sufferable would be an understatement. Through the blistering heat, constant sandstorms, and unpredictable incursions of beast and rogues alike, Cor would understand pain through several meanings. Cape Wrath, as it was aptly named, was set atop a rigid jut of wind-worn sandstone; a fortress standing tall amidst the sun baked landscape. It overlooked a tract of sand and shallow canyons only known as Hell’s Gate. The commander under charge of the entire garrison at Cape Wrath did not make it easier for Cor. A grisled dragon named Dhelum, who vividly remembered the events of the riot, who took part in quelling the violent mob. He had a severe hatred of the young Diraa’Tol, but still had reason to give him equitable training. But none of this mattered to Cor as he pushed through the pain and negativity every day with limitless stamina. Eventually he graduated under Dhelum’s training to Ugaan in ten years, which impressed the older dragon.

For roughly 120 years, Cor remained at Cape Wrath, slowly garnering the respect of his fellow warriors, and serving with distinction. But his first true test came when he was sent with nine other Ugaan to investigate movement deep in Hell’s Gate just after a sandstorm, the group would not be seen or contacted again for two weeks, by this time the garrison had gone into full alert. Cor would later be found by the garrison watch, approaching the fortress with two other surviving and incapacitated members of his patrol, collapsing just short of the gates; he had spent the better of eight days dragging them back with a collection of rope and wooden bracing originally used to set broken bones.

He had the onset of dehydration and starvation, showing wounds pertaining to a nightmarish creature, which was confirmed by him and the other two: Khinziran. Many were skeptical about Cor’s heroics, but his brothers supported the story of Cor keeping the beasts at bay with his fire. After several weeks of healing and recuperation, Cor would lead a patrol of around ten Ugaan, charged with intercepting and halting an incursion of creatures while holding out for reinforcements. They weren’t expecting a small Khinziran pack traveling near sundown. Cor tasked his warriors into a shield wall, better aware of how the Kkinziran acted. The Khinziran alpha charged their ranks breaking the wall, with Cor instantly taking the opportunity to mount the alpha, making to hack its tail off with a blade mounted on his tail. Cor would only get two strikes before being thrown off, having been rammed against a nearby rock surface, immediately breaking one of his wings. After blocking several powerful swipes within the maw of the beast, he would strike the eyes after an unsuccessful gout of fire, allowing him to get break free. Once more he is able to mount the Khinziran alpha, Cor would realize it would take too long to excise the tail, opting to tear away the flesh down to the bone while keeping it from jabbing its massive stinger into him.

Clasping the bone with his jaws, he would dislocate the exposed tail bones, rendering it disabled, though not before taking a glancing slash from the stinger. Once more Cor would be thrown off the beast having barely a moment to recuperate as the alpha charged him. The next moments Cor wouldn’t remember, pain and anger taking over rationality as the remaining Ugaan managed to distract the rest of the pack long enough for the battle to finish.

From eye witness accounts, Cor and the now identified ‘Red Devil’ collided with one another, ripping at one another before Cor got the upper hand, using the alpha’s weight against it. A horrible strike upon the back of Cor from the claws of the Khinziran, a deft cut to the alpha’s throat, shortening the battle to a few more seconds. Cor, filled with primal rage would continue to butcher the corpse until it’s head was severed, by then, Cor had succumbed to the venom, falling limp over the bloody corpse, covered entirely in its blood. Reinforcements would arrive moments later, running down the stragglers. Once again, many were skeptical of Cor’s survival, but many were surprised to realize he was still alive, albeit paralyzed, with the stinger stuck in his body.

Brought into immediate medical care, Cor’s wounds were considered borderline life threatening, but after several months of recovery of his wounds and rehabilitation of several broken bones, he would come back to service with a permanent scar.

It would be revealed until later that Cor had not left the battle with survivable wounds, as the Khinziran had literally butchered part of Cor’s body, leaving it permanently scarred and weak.

Of the ten Ugaan that went into Hell’s Gate that evening, only five including Cor, survived, and were subsequently promoted to Aliugaan. Following the events, Cor would take over Dhelum’s position for 10 years as he was transferred back to the palace, before being transferred back to Cape’s Wrath. Cor would then be transferred to a much calmer location further northeast to a town named Khareh’Fah, deep within a haunting location called the Field of Bones. In 20 years years of serving in this garrison, Cor would once again prove himself a cut above his fellow Aliugaan. A notorious band of desert bandits had been harassing the nearby towns, including specifically Khareh’Fah, which was defended by a low desert wall.

He would use his practice in architectural defense to upgrade the walls to include dragons and crenellations, before weathering an attack. Starting near the end of the 20th year, Cor would set up a trap for the raiders during the season they would be active. Paying close attention to the weather patterns, he would order half of the dragons stationed at Khareh’Fah to other settlements, working with the garrison commanders and peacekeepers, while taking his most capable warriors from that detachment towards the outskirts of the town the day a sandstorm arrived. The remaining half would remain stationed with orders to retreat into the town itself once the walls were breached. Those ordered to the outskirts surrounding the town with Cor were instructed to submerge themselves beneath the sand during the sandstorm. In just two days, the raiders would take the bait, assaulting the lightly defended town. As planned, the walls would eventually fall to the enemy, forcing the defenders to the town proper. As the bulk of the raiders climbed or flew over the walls, beginning their sacking of the town, a Vuuaan would arrive at the top of the bell tower, yelling out the signal: “Bring the Red!”

In one swift execution, the raider threat in the east had been eliminated entirely.

Cor’s name would be sung that day in no less than five towns and cities. All those who had been affected, were now grateful to the noble. He would remain at Khareh’Fah for 70 more years, before being sent back by an Irezu. Upon the return, he would be judged by the council of the Irezu, with the original having died of old age, it was agreed that Cor had fulfilled his letting of blood, and was forced to become a Luiaan, remaining in Al’Yaek to finish the fulfillment of rebuilding his family had caused. There were special cases where he was taken elsewhere however.

200 years would flicker by as the Ashyraak worked away, rebuilding the quarter that had been damaged nearly half a millennia ago. The Diraa’Tol remained quiet and steady in his work during this time, content with his work and taking whatever measures to perfect any errors he or fellow Luiaans had made. While he was not the greatest, he understood just enough to complete his task. All the while this happened, he was ridiculed and called various vulgar words. And with every day, Cor’s once humorous demeanor began to crack away into an embittered male, but no matter how violent they got, no matter just how respectable they made him, Cor never boiled over, and simply continued his perilous work. Eventually, the negativelitt slowly began to wane as the damage his bloodline had wrought slowly faded away, leaving only scars, distrust, and a minor glare from the populace.

During his transfer back to Al’Yaek on an outside assignment, the worker caravan transporting Cor became late, and eventually declared missing when it failed to make its arrival. The caravan would be found a day later, scattered and broken by a massive Ragaakr which lay dead within the center of the shattered wagons and draconic corpses. It was later revealed that the Ragaakr had attacked the caravan, and Cor had led a coordinated attack against it, taking most of the Ragaakr’s fury to the detriment of his body. Though even with his efforts, the casualties were still high. It was said, the moment the Ragaakr fell, Cor cried out to the heavens with an embittered voice: “What more do you want of me?! What more must I prove?!”  Baram’Kae, the city closest to the grim scene, feasted well for the next week. A collection of bones would be handed to Na’Tari by a band of grateful workers and traders, which eventually found its way onto Cor’s armor.

The week after, the council would absolve the Diraa’Tol family of its crimes, and most of the ire once wrought on him diminished soon after, but not until Cor himself finished the last of the damages to Al’Yaek, which delayed the council by several weeks. Cor was given a choice to continue now as a Vuuaan, but declined, retaking his mantle as a captain of the Aliugaan. For the next 100 years, Cor would transfer from the palace to the outskirts to aid in repelling attacks or hunting down problematic entities, while providing expertise to his subordinates.

At the age of 670, Cor would apply for the rank of Irezu after further encouragement from his mother and colleagues. Though ultimately it was to gain access to the Kuz’A matriarch herself, a lasting effort from him to show his loyalty and gain her trust.

Many now see that Cor had lost something important to himself, of which he now appears too busy to mend; The cost of lifting the onus weighed upon by treachery and judgment.

Physical Appearance and Accessories

Height: 18Ft/M
Length: 34 Ft/ M
Wingspan: 40 Ft/ M
Scale/Fur/Feathers:

An Ashyraak’s scales are rough and always seem to carry a hint of warmth no matter the environment. Cor’s scales share a pattern of orange and reds with long dark red stripes going down his body.

Eyes: Blue
Accessories:

Banner [Cor’s Banner] - Regimental indicator of Cor. The banner is a dark red color with a perfect circle in the center with fiery patterns: a ‘core’ of fire to outlast the enemies. The initials of Na’Tari, master Vuuaan, is sewn within the fabric near the top. Written just above the circle is the phrase: “Asaku su akae” or “Victory is work.” In Universal. If one is fluent or well versed in runes, there are several protective glyphs that can be detected throughout the banner, enabling it to survive the most brutal conflicts.

Skull of the Red Devil - A massive Khinziran skull mounted on the left pauldron of Cor’s armor, covering the permanent damage during his battle with the beast.

Ruby Idol of E’Coran - Made by his foster mother, Cor holds onto this closely.

Opalite Idol of Nura’Ly - A well worn but exquisite  idol of the Ki’Sha goddess of maternity and childhood, gifted to Cor by his foster mother, Na’Tari. It is her family heirloom.

Citrine Idol of Mora - A modest idol, beautiful yet uninteresting, it is kept surprisingly clean.

Snugglebug - Cor’s favorite childhood plushie given to him by his parents as a hatchling, made to look like an U’Riku. He always carries it around, hidden within his pack. Cor will get upset if someone finds it or takes it from him.

Armor:

Cor wears both regal and practical pieces of armor mixed into a single set, allowing him movement without sacrificing much armor. It is well decorated, and most pieces have been given the liberty of weathering the duress its owner goes under constantly through runic inscriptions. His helm is only ever donned when he is in combat, but otherwise keeps it off. His left pauldron holds a massive skull of a Khinziran he killed, while much of his armor is lined or decorated with a series of bones from a Ragaakr he had also felled. The armor lining his tail reveals the old attachment where a blade once adorned itself, now a reminder of his battles.

Horns/Spikes:

Two long beige horns that form a very shallow U. The left one’s tip has been snapped off, making them appear uneven. Soft bronze-like spikes adorn his spine from head to tail.

Overall Appearance:

Like the majority of Ashyraak, Cor appears in a bright red color, with several orange stripes unique to the Diraa’Tol bloodline playing across his body. Scars adorn his toned body from head to tail, with a patch of soft, sensitive scales splotching across his left shoulder and back. Dark red stripes zig zag across his back and upper limbs of his fore and aft legs.

Abilities and Strengths

Abilities:

Blue Fire Element
Just as rare as an Ash Scale, Blue Fire is considered a blessing for Ashyraak that are born with it. Though they lose the potential ability to breathe a beam of pure heat, they instead have a much more powerful flame breath at their disposal. This mutation usually comes about due to an enlarged Ignis Gland, resulting in a much more controllable and powerful element. Blue Fire Ashyraaks should be aware of the drawbacks to overusing their element, as it can overheat them.

An Ashyraak born with blue eyes always guarantees Blue Fire.

Blue Fire Breath
Range - 200 Feet/ 60 Meters. 5-10 Feet/ 1-3 Meter Cone.
Speed - Narratively Very Quick/ 90 mph/ 40 M/s
Power - Very Strong; it is not to be underestimated. 2200 Fahrenheit/ 1200 Celsius
Traits - Engulfs anything that it touches in flames. Incredibly hot.
Stress - Can sustain a breath of fire for about (5) Posts. Needs to rest a while, about an hour, if he consistently uses it. Will overheat him if he goes over (4) Posts, slowing him down for (1) Post. An Ashyraak that overheats will become sluggish as their body struggles to vent an incredible amount of heat.

A gout of extreme-heated flame rapidly erupts from Cor’s maw, engulfing whatever is unfortunate to stray into its path.

Blue Fire Ball
Range - 300 Feet/ 91 Meters
Speed - Narratively Very Quick/ 90 mph/ 40 M/s
Power - Powerful; it is not to be underestimated. 2200 Fahrenheit/ 1200 Celsius
Cooldown - (2) Post. Narratively a minute or two.
Traits - A ball of fire flying in an aligned trajectory. Slightly affected by gravity. Can be affected by intense winds.

An intense ball of flame erupts from Cor’s maw, sailing at incredible speeds towards its target, before detonating in a brilliant explosion.

Blue Inferno
Range - 150 Feet/ 45 Meters
Speed - Very Quick/ 90 mph/ 40 M/s
Power - Powerful; it is not to be underestimated. 2200 Fahrenheit/ 1200 Celsius
Cooldown - (7) Post Cooldown.
Traits -  (1) Post Charge. During the charge up, anyone or anything that is organic immediately catches fire due to the extreme heat. Upon execution of the ability, the designated area is then engulfed in a massive inferno that lasts for an additional post. (1) Post Duration. Cor can move while using this.
Stress - Overheats the Ashyraak, slowing them down for (2) Posts.

Cor super heats the surrounding air to such an extreme, it begins melting low-point materials, and will cause instant combustion on any organics caught in the radius, including dragons. Anything not evacuated from ground zero is swallowed by an explosive inferno. This ability usually leaves a shallow crater in the ground.

OVERHEAT STATUS - Overheat is caused anytime an Ashyraak takes on too much heat from their abilities. Anytime an Ashyraak overheats, they become immune to cold attacks, and can use the cold attack as a flash-heat sink, allowing the Ashyraak to exit their overheat status. They however become sluggish as their body struggles to vent excess heat, though they cannot suffer ailments such as hyperthermia if additional heat is applied. They CANNOT use their fire abilities if they are in this state.

Wing-Arms
Fully capable of being used as literal arms, despite their rudimentary dexterity, these powerful arms give an Ashyraak a great edge over combatants, opening up several avenues for fighting styles and additional leverage in simple activities. They pack quite a punch when used as literal fists, and are able to deflect powerful blows due to the rigidity of the bone and armor of the scales.

Strengths: (What strengths does your draconiforme hold? Mental and physical)

Stamina - Cor seems to have an endless pool of energy, able to outlast most dragons or creatures by sheer physical endurance alone.

War Master - From a young age, Cor showed a great deal of promise as a warrior, and showed it when his time for fame came. He learned well in the great libraries of the nobles, even with the limited funds and time he had, Cor was able to memorize most of the books to heart to great benefit. He is fully capable of going up against some of the greatest warriors in Nuira, and can hold his own, showing great skill and technique in battle, as well as discipline. Despite all Cor could learn from books, he knew true experience was required for him to truly hone his skills and rise further in the ranks, and maintains a training regime to this day. Many of his subordinates  have recently approached Cor for his tutelage.

Adaptable Tactician - Cor has become a brilliant strategist and leader, and while he does have a thought out plan or two, he always has some form of backup contingency to adapt to any flaws in his subordinates. In truth most of his ideas are usually addressed in the short term, where then he improvises as the tide of battle moves.

Weaknesses:

Cold - For one reason or another, Cor’s body has acclimated too much to the heat that his body has trouble maintaining itself in frigid environments. Cor cannot handle cold and frigid environments for long unless he constantly uses his fire. Cold based attacks also harm him greatly if he is not able to utilize his fire.

Sins of the Family - While Cor is fearless and courageous in his pursuit, his dream of redemption and blindness against danger may cause unneeded harm to himself. He may not understand that the enemy will be too much on his own.

Maimed - A portion of scales and flesh on  Cor’s left shoulder and part of his back has been left irreversibly damaged during his battle with the Red Devil. The scales here are much smoother and softer, allowing for weapons and claws to pierce his scales much easier. You definitely should get permission from Cor if you want to touch or use the patch as a pillow.

Weak Mind - Years of hope lost and promises broken when the Sand Tail Riots happened, a low bog of uncertainty perpetually soddens the mind of Cor, and has since weakened his mental resolve.

Fighting Style: (How do they fight? Are they aerial combatants? Long ranged, short ranged, magic wielders, barbaric fighters?)

Cor adopts a series of unique styles and stances, largely to provoke and draw out a fight to exhaust his enemy, though he commonly uses his style to single out and disable opponents to ‘equal’ the odds. He prefers close to medium range encounters, wishing to join the fray, and rarely uses long range tactics, only falling back on it if needed. He also incorporates a series of short feints, and very rarely uses heavy handed feints to keep him from firing out.

Cor’s face is largely blank when fighting, using emotions rarely, but to ultimately ensure the enemy doesn’t know the true state of his condition. This has worked in his favor more than once.

[Default] Right Wing Stance - His fall back stance should he fail to fully adapt a new style. He ensures his weak point is covered and remains at a distance from the dragon. He keeps his right side facing the enemy.

[Secondary Default] Left Maim Stance - A dangerous and more serious stance Cor adopts, he exposes his weak scales, using his magic to instigate an attack from his opponent. He closes the distance, ensuring a higher chance of attack from his opponent, though similarly risk of damage to his maimed scales. This stance is used primarily when he wants to pressure his opponent and finish the battle quickly. He keeps his left side facing the enemy.

[Primary] Adaptive Stance - Cor literally adapts to his opponent’s, studying and tearing down their form while building his, until he executes his new stance in a flurry of moves. This also allows him to draw out a fight to exhaust his opponent.

Kharae Stance - A self taught stance that mixes into Right Wing and Left Maim, and only uses this when against a powerful opponent. He transitions into either stance upon deflecting the enemy’s attack, and will draw it into a two-pattern parry as well. In a way it appears as if he is dancing with his opponent, which is confirmed by Cor to be intentional.

[Group Default] Group Stance - Should Cor be outnumbered, he lowers his body into an evasive stance, adjusting his movement to each attack, while also singling out an enemy in the group.

Magic:

Forsaken Block
Speed - Can deflect (1) attacks per post.
Power - Can deflect most small to medium attacks/projectiles, though heavier attacks can still get through.
Cooldown - (1) Posts.
Traits - A visible field of force blocks and deflects whatever attack hits the focused location of Cor’s body. Dragons attacking him will become slowed if he manages to trap them in the block, allowing him to quickly retaliate.
Stress - Prolonged usage of the unique magic will cause quick exhaustion. At best, Cor can utilize a Forsaken Block up to five times in combat before tapping himself of the magic.

Defensive magic allowing Cor to parry otherwise difficult or explosive projectiles from him. This also is able to literally slow a dragon momentarily, enough for the defender to retaliate quickly, or get some distance. This magic was learned sometime after his absolvement, from an eccentric dragon he met while hunting deep in the Uoangi desert. Though ‘training’ is a stretch, Cor had to learn the fundamentals of this technique on his own, much to the worry of his subordinates being ordered to attack him.
