An idea for a lesser creature

Derg Slayer Wasp

A species of very large flying insectoid predators, they are roughly the size of a teen dragon at adulthood. They build nests in the sides of mountains which makes removing it a very dangerous endeavor. They have powerful stingers capable of piercing dragon hide. They are very hardy and can adapt to their environment. Depending on where they reside alters the wasp giving them resistance to the environment. For example if they live near magma they will have resistance to fire. They have a collective hive mind, if one learns something it is immediately transmitted to the rest of the hive. If threatened a lone wasp will emit an alarm call, they are never far from other wasps. They can also wield magic albeit not as strong as dragon magic. Notable spells are fire or lightning for offense or healing magic or barrier magic for defense. They also carry venom which is able to make all but those immune to it very sick.

However the derg slayer wasps cannot survive in cold climates and are vulnerable to ice based attacks.Updated

Derg Slayer Wasp heirarchy

Queen: largest and most powerful of all in regards to magic, lacks stinger, uses mandables to attack with, calls workers to aid in battle

Drone: male derg slayer wasp, lacks combat prowess, serves only to aid in reproduction

Elite Worker: more powerful worker, in charge of defending offspring queens

Worker: guards hive from invaders, gathers food for hive, always hunts in groups of 3 or more

Derg Slayer Wasp appearance, all have the shape of the tarantula hawk wasp, just much bigger.

They are the size of teen dragons.
